Good to see we've retained our unbeaten record at Encounter Bay

Didn't see the game, but must have been an improved effort. All I've heard is Nick Lower was probably best, and David Rodan played very well. If anyone knows what number he wore, please let me know, it wasn't listed in the Budget.

Jamie Vlatko booted 6 goals, Sam Rowe 4, and three goals each to Sam Phillips and James Gallagher.

at least south is consistent at encounter bay...they wont want to go back there anymore

AH - Rodan wore Alby Menzel's old number - 15! Lucky he didn't 'break a leg' on debut

I might add also that I think Michael Handby was reported for striking James Gallagher. Looked like a raised elbow from where I was at but I was a fair way away. I think Handby might have tried to fend Gallagher away as they collided and Handby may have braced with a raised elbow which with his height, was at just the right height to catch Gags in the jaw. Anyone standing on the clubroom (centre) wing would have had a better view than me though.

My opinion -there is no case to answer. handby had the ball , saw gallagher approaching to tackle ,turned his shoulder into gallagher and gallagher hit the deck as if he had been shot. Umpire reported handby, 50 m penalty, gallagher sprung to his feet and kicked the goal.
Its a shame a few more South boys didnt show the same aggression in a performance today that was totally unacceptable.

Yeah I thought it was just a head high bump. Still a free though. Dont know what youre on about with the 50. Didnt think there was one.

Never tell Alby it was his old number. He wore number 2, but wanted 19, so he asked for a change. The jumper steward just thought he didn't want 2 so he gave him the first one that was available ... 15. Alby wasn't pleased.

They gave 19 to Peter Laughlin, but after a few games the two of them swapped, so Alby finally won his coveted number 19. There you go, some really worthless trivia for ya

Have to agree about the report of the South player. From a distance though, but it just looked like a good old fashion footy collision. Maybe the umpire is looking at impressing the AFL and trying to get a gig there soon??

I actually thought there were quite a few good old fashion footy collision by both sides, was great to see!

When Jack Cahill was appointed to the club that was his intention to toughen the side up to the level required to be competitive at SANFL level and playing in this style saw several players especially Benny Warren bulk up and have more of a physical presence on the field, perhaps co-incidently the Wins over Loss ratio suddenly began to increase. Then as was the case for Robert Pyman, the same Termites that ended Pyman's career set to Cahill and a now we have the current situation.....

South do need to toughen up mentally and physically as a side, yet its about having the backbone to support it and that is currently what we dont have, hence the regular beltings and humiliations in the SANFL competition. No doubt when Adam Cockshell gets fit again we may have another option up forward, yet I think its pretty obvious that board member Brendon Honour was no doubt correct in his suggestion that position no 8 is where the club will be likely to finish this year, if we continue to bring that type of game as we did against Norwood to other SANFL sides, it could well happen that way.

Youre asserting that the people who ended Pyman and appointed Cahill ended Cahill.

Pyman effectively ended himself and Cahill took the money and ran. Maybe I am missing the point you are trying to make.

Back to the topic. Norwood looked a class above from quarter time. I thought Rodan was very good and the overall delivery to the forward line was very good. Handby's report did not incur a 50 metre penalty and whilist it seemed to be a football collision (very little remonstrating), our last report at this oval saw a player reported in error (the old mistaken identity) but still got a game.

That would be Sam Rowe. He was recruited from Sydney Swans at the end of 2007, along with Sam Phillips. Took awhile to settle in but improved as the season progressed. Now that he's got 20 games under his belt he is becoming a very important player in out line up.
