The Eagles (helped by 3 dubious umpiring decisions within the first minute) jumped out of the blocks and opened up a 13 point lead halfway through the first quarter. Centrals then fought back and despite some ordinary kicking in front of goal, took the lead at quarter time.

The second quarter was all Centrals, who dominated. Halfway through the second quarter, the Eagles brought out the handbags ( ) and a melee broke out on the wing. Meanwhile play had gone on and James Gowans (who wasn't in the melee for once  ) had the ball on the wing and the only player within 30 metres of him was Brad Symes. Centrals got it down inside 50 where they took a mark and goaled. Only inaccuarate kicking kept the Eagles in the game.

The Eagles fought back early in the quarter, but the Centrals turned it on for 10 minutes, kicking 4 unanswered goals. The Eagles then kicked four unanswered either side of three quarter time and halfway through the last quarter scores were level. Centrals immediately replied with a goal, and everything the Eagles threw at Centrals, Centrals matched, and held on for an 8 point win.

It was a scrappy, physical game. I reckon it would of done Centrals a world of good.

Any injuries for Centrals???

In particular the free kick paid against Ken McGregor in the 3rd qtr - instead of that being an Eagles goal Central were awarded the free moved the ball forward and goaled (the classic 2 goal turn around) and then late in the last an Eagles player marked umpire calls play on and again in the resulting play Central goal again. As a Central fan last night you have no reason to criticise the umpiring as for the vast majority of the game the umpiring was well and truly in your favour.

MMM I will answer the quote shortly Bruce.
First what a god awful frustrating game to watch.Eagles what has happened to game plan used against Port Adelaide in the first trial gone and forgotten. Why not tell us fans members etc that you are not going to start a game until half time then we know when to get to the game.
Flood flood flood then get the ball and no one forward to kick the ball to except for Centrals .Why play this type of style.
Which I may add totally disappeared after half time.and what type of game did my Eagles play after half time .Get the ball quickly into the forward line and score goals .It almost worked IMHO.
Brucetiki's comment re the free kicks the one he must have been talking about was the free given to Salter after he dropped the ball and was hit pushed shoved whatever either high or in the back.which the Centrals palyer didn't need to do as Salter had dropped the mark. And Centrals could have picked up and run away with.
But while talking FREES Brucetiki should look very closely to the third quarter FREE.The ball comes into Centrals forward line three players fly 2 Centrals one Eagles in a sandwhich so to speak ;) .The Centrals player at the back pushes the Centrals player in the front of the marking contest.Umpire blows the whistle in the back centrals steadying goal.HOW can u get a free when your own player pushes u in the back.
To say the umpires didn't have a good starting game would be an understatement.
Now all dues to Centrals they won the game played better than the Eagles.Eagles were very lucky the Centrals goal kicking coach must be on holidays .
NOW SANFL how you can possibly program 4 games on a day at an oval not prepared for it .By this I mean 1 shop open to cater for the Crowd early on.Very little shelter with the exception of the grandstand. Why not have these days at places like Adelaide oval at least the entire crowd can find shelter. And no budgets on sale until part way through the Seconds game.Centrals did open a second Canteen latter in the day.And the funniest thing announced to those sitting the Grandstand during the seconds they would need to either pay for their seats or leave .Why wasn't the ticket office opened earlier not the way to run the most successful club in decades.
As a first off effort by the league playing four games in one day I for one will never go early to watch the seconds again.why not play 16,18 seconds and league.
And a very well done to the EAGLES under 18's for playing the best footy by the four levels all day.

Ok rant over ;)
And when the Eagles play South and the seconds play at 8.45 I'll still be home

Sounds like Centrals generally always held the upper hand, and could have won by more with some straighter kicking early, but before the game I was a bit apprehensive this could have been a fifty point loss, so it sounds like there is something to build on there this year.

We actually started way better than Centrals Flying High .But kind of stopped part way through the first term .As I said we went forward and everyone had not flooded back.
Why Ron and the panel thought flooding would beat the dogs. then start going direct and fast which almost stopped the dogs .

I dunno but at least we didnt fold by 50 points .

has the opposition coaches box at Elizabeth been moved over the summer?
if not, Ronnie must have found some seriously sour grapes to suck going by his quote in the paper today.

ps I did not see the game so cannot comment on the game itself, only going on what is in the paper.

From memory it has
Used to be in the middle of the grandstand up the back, now in the Grand Central corner of the grand stand.
Commentating for LifeFM last night we had a small blackspot on the north western half forward flank due to the new Central coaches and corporate box, might be more amplified futher around

This just proves my theory that Eagles supporters are the most easily provoked

I wasn't commenting on the overall standard of umpiring last night, I just made a comment about the umpiring in the first minute. As a whole, I thought the standard of umpiring was pretty reasonable considering we were playing the Eagles (who often get free ride from the umps).
