More of the ball and opportunities and West kicked point after point. West need to improve the kicking for goals it seems. Westies let this one slip and Andy will be saying the same thing we lost what we should have won.

Forgetting the standard of the match for a moment, as with the 2008 AFL Grand Final, this match proved what a superfluous statistic "inside 50s" is.

Panthers won the game because they used the ball better, and had a focal point to goal. Ben Warren didn't do a lot, and had a couple of "you beauty" free kicks, but each time he was directly involved in the game he provided a scoring opporunity for the Panthers.

Although West had a lot more of the ball, they simply did not deserve to win because they couldn't use it. Willats in particular can't kick to save himself. Hartlett kicked one out on the full from 10 metres out, and he's on an AFL list!!!

Speaking of AFL listed players, Brad Moran watched the game today. The Crows would be very disappointed with the effort he made today.

I thought South were lucky to come away with the win today, Ben Warren is a fantastic player and it certainley showed today as he pretty much won the game off his boot.

It was also quite satisfying to see South win after most people in here tipped Westies! ;)

I'm sure all the Westies supporters on here are going to apologise to Bayman when he suggested that this is a no bet game and despite westies last two TRIAL games (compared to the real thing) they hadn't done enough to convince him to back them to win...

He's a fine backman but a dodgy forward. Pity for him and his career that his dud AFL coach thinks otherwise.

Very disappointing to see that we lost this game. It was one we needed to win to instill some confidence in the boys.

Take nothing away from South. They made the most of their opportunities when it counted. Used the ball more cleanly and hit their targets at the right times. Some of West's skill errors were appalling at times. Willits' 0-5 could easily have been 3-2 or 4-1. A number of players in the clear hit up South players without warning. Without being too uncomplimentary, they won't win too many games with an incredible excess of circular handballs that gave South ample time to drop numbers back into the West 50, and a number of the misses in the first half were within 40m. There is a lot of talent on that list, but occasionally try to be too clever with creating things, rather than just going long and direct to leading targets.

Warren clearly the difference with 7, James Boyd has no early signs of a 2008 hangover, Matthew Smith had some really good moments, Jason Torney a great general in defence and a lot to like about some of the younger players. Shaun McKernan will be a handy forward foil also. Some really clever body positioning to create a path for Warren, great football brain. Thewlis probably their best with reading the play so well. Special mention to Liam Corrie, the 16 year old debutant who copped a big hit in the 2nd term, looked in lots of strife, but bravely came back on and withstood some more big hits from that moment and won good contested possession.

Will be amazed on Medal night if Bronik Davies doesn't get the 3 votes. A class above on the day for West, although will be worth watching Jason Davenport closely for the Medal if today is any sign. Looked a few steps above many others at times. Great disposal from Cupido in the back half. Fort Caruso would be one of the smaller players on West's list for a while, but all heart. So much courage today backing into the contest at times.

West fans would be ripping their hair out on the way home. A golden opportunity lost.

Great finish to the Reserves, with South coming back from 26 points down at 3/4 time to win after the siren courtesy of Jak Kennedy-Hunt, who will be one of the smallest full forwards going around, but has a fantastic pair of hands.

Westies should have won this game...after Warren kicked 3 goals in a matter of minutes at the start of this game, I thought Westies were GONE. But, as was the case in the South vs. West clashes in season 2008, the team that got the jump early was normally headed off by the other. West pure and simple let themselves down with kicking on goal...with approx. 30 more inside 50s than South, they really should have won this game and won easily.

CK is spot on with his assessments...Davies was outstanding. Piasente started well but faded considerably, but I thought Willits, whilst kicking poorly, was exceptional as a lead-out forward and presented well ALL day. Cupido is being wasted across half-back...if he was fair dinkum about his footy, he would shed about 25kg's, and get a gig dominating through the middle of the park...

Well done also to the South BBQ staff for finally giving me a HOT snag in bread. Care little Snouts weight-watchers...I only had 2.
