mcdermott,u r a tosser, saying that the magpies should fold is crazy talk, who r u to judge any team,ur coaching record was great wasnt it,and glenelg make one grand final in yrs and all of a sudden its time to toss a side out to make a 8 team comp,i for one agree the magpies have nothing to do with the power,in history or anything and i am a magpie member, the powers woes are not of the magpies doing, they did it themself,if anything the power should leave alberton for adelaide oval and return alberton back to its rightful owners, but to say they should fold,ur a idiot mcdermott

There does appear to be a campaign in the media that is targeting the 9 SANFL clubs. Firstly Rucci, now McDermott.
The essence of the McDermott article is that the standing of the SANFL competition as the second best in the nation must be sacrificed if it means the health of the 2 AFL clubs based in Adelaide.
Certainly makes for pretty ugly reading for all lovers of the local league.
I remember Neil Craig stating a while ago just how good it is to have a comp like the SANFL in the state and how it actually benefits his club.
McDermott is probably after a reaction, which he gets of course. Just disappointing how little he now values the local comp. Talking down the SANFL will do damage make no mistake.

Chris McDermott, it pains me to say, is a cretin. A fine footballer, yes. A great servant of the GFC, yes. But undoubtedly a cretin. Folding any SANFL team (Magpies or otherwise) will not miraculously make the Power profitable. Nor will it directly help any of the remaining SANFL teams; raising the annual dividend from the AFL clubs by an eighth would be handy, but this alone ain't going to stop a basket case club from keeling over. His suggestion that the SANFL should be made to suffer for the sake of the AFL, and in particular for another SA-club AFL premiership, is particularly odious. I imagine his ill-concieved rant in today's fishwrap will win him no friends on This Hallowed Forum.

Well said Pseudo, couldn't agree more.
He's either extremely stupid or an attention craver. Maybe a bit of both reading that ridiculous diatribe in today's paper.
In fact I'll even go as far to call him a basket case!

I think we need the "Port Adelaide Magpies", the club with the outstanding history in the SANFL that funny enough wore the Port Adelaide Football Club jumper yesterday that we all love to hate and that play "THEIR HOME GAMES AT ALBERTON.

The Power or hang on this month its the club with the 130 years tradition as their promotions department call them are a side still wet behind the ears in the AFL could and should move to Adelaide Oval by Chris McDermotts comments.

Well Chris let them move there and let the Port Magpies continue to play at Alberton and wear the prison bar jumper or whatever they call it as they have for years and be the side we all love to hate.

PS I have a soft spot for the Magpies after the way the Power have treated them

You've got it all wrong of far greater concern in the paper today (vis-a-vis literary standards and general football nous) was Honor's assertion that we would finish top and Central's fourth.....

Honor's "efforts" with us and his current position of power at South are ample practical evidence of his knowledge base on football...

IIRC correctly this time last year he predicted North to finish top and Glenelg to miss the five in season 2008...

Think about it, not sure about the Adelaide thingy.....

Money is going to be tight over the next 10 years guys.... ;)

SANFL might not be here in 10 years,

9 teams are too many.

if there is not a massive re-thinking of our greay club scene....

PS. I like it when predictions are bad for the Dogs....

With the AFL expansion policy still going ahead while the power are struggling the impact on the sanfl is not looking great. All the 'well known' eyes and minds are on the AFL and making sure it stays strong. Those that write in the papers are interested in the afl staying strong. I think the sanfl teams are going to need to have strong community links as a necessary ingredient to keep on going. Clubs important to the community will continue to develop and grow in strength.

9 months ago McDermott was calling for the Power to use the Magpies as a reserves side, the Crows to use Woodville as a reserves side and for West Torrens to go back to Thebarton Oval to make it a ten team SANFL competition. Probably wouldn't take a lot of notice of what he is saying...

What could be more "Glenelg man first" than shafting the Magpies and making Port Power move to Adelaide Oval...

Imagine that Port Power and North Adelaide as co-tenants....
