i doubt the margin will be anything like it was last time they met, i wonder whether norwood will have enough firepower up forward to kick more than port considering that walker is likely to make his debut with the crows
(before seeing the named teams)
i think port in a close one

Norwood by 8 goals in a canter. They won't have to get out of second gear.

Unfortunately i think you're right, maybe a little closer, probably closer to 5 goals.

I'm gonna miss Walker.

He brought so much excitement. Not only excitement but success, we probably wouldn't have even made the finals without him last year. Good luck with the Crows Walks.
As for the game, can't wait! I'll be waiting all week for it, should be a beauty. Hoping for a massive crowd to kick off the season!

I've been watching the selected recruits, and more importantly, the developing players over the summer. Now have a settled backline, quick and skillful midfield, and a multitude of scoring options up forward, including Jeremy Clayton. And most important, some good old fashioned hard, tough, Port Adelaide aggression at the body and the ball.
I don't know what Norwood will be offering, but I certainly know what Port Adelaide will be dishing out.

Good post and spot on.
Anyone who predicts an 8 goal, 5 goal or any margin in a Norwood /Port game has no understanding of the Norwood/Port tradition. All games are tough, most games are close and both clubs 'LIVE" for these games.
I think Norwood will win a traditionally hard, tough contest but ANY game between these two clubs is 50/50.

I have a good understanding of the Port/Norwood tradition. Has neither side ever thrashed the other SDK? I understand what you are saying but IMO Norwood will do it easily.

Norwood thrashed the Pies by over twenty goals on ANZAC Day in 1997. It was so one sided that when Scotty Hodges kicked a goal the Legs fans actually cheered ha ha. When Norwood won that game it beat the previous biggest win over Port Adelaide (also set by Norwood) by over a hundred points (114 I think it was) at the Parade in 1982.
Anyone who says an 8 goal margin in a Port v Norwood game is impossible has no understanding of the Port v Norwood tradition.

Still, I don't think the record is in danger next week!

We cheered because he didn't need a free from a soft push in the back to kick the goal.

The prelim final 96 wasn't it topsy?
I thought it was either in the back, holding the man or too high, there were 3 free's there take your pick.
If that didn't deserve a free kick topsy you don't know alot about the rules of our great game.
Port won the GF eazeeee the following week didn't they? against a side they hadn't beaten all year in Centrals.
I believe Norwood never lost to Centrals that year aswell.

What could of been!

What do you mean tradition? I thought this Port side had only been around since 1997?
I too remember Hodges kicking
that goal....but considering he kicked well over 700 it is amazing I recall that one.
Ahhh, and that Prelim...

Norwood "SHOULD" win this comfortably. What I saw of Port last week, they have a long way to go.

Of all the clubs who have a vision of 'having a long way to go', yours is it.

No, I dont think I will. With a Friday night game this week I understand we played the second half with mostly Reserves and 18's which you would expect West Adelaide's league team to deal with easliy.
Our best 18/22 spent most of the second half watching. What you witnessed Saturday is a long way from what we expect to show on Friday night.
Time will tell.
