What ! He is so young.
What is it with elite athletes dying so young ? Arthur Ashe, Bob Shearman, Don Woodcock, John Marriott for example.
Was Barry the one who played all his career at Prospect, not venturing to the Bay with Wayne and Allan ?
Tough bastards those two.

Former Port Adelaide and Footscray player Stephen Knight died a couple of days ago too. His funeral was today.

Serious!!

The bloke you loved to hate as an opposition supporter, but he had some ability for sure, ... Again, condolensces to his family and friends.
The reality of the immortality factor always shocks us when we lose athletes well before their perceived time.

Yeah Knight was i think only 47. I read he'd had a serious illness for quite some time now. Very sad.

Stringer stopped Robran's run of seven, I think B&Fs, at North. Must have been a pretty handy player.

Brilliant wingman for the roosters
Memories were a flock of black hair, high mark for a wingman and who can forget those long raking left foot kicks.
Played in arguably the best North teams in history

Only because Robran suffered that knee injury mid 74. However Barry Stringer was a very good player.

Sad to hear of his passing. Comes from a great S.A. footy family.

Make no mistake about Barry Stringer, he was one of the very best wingmen in the history of the game. Brilliant player. North are having a bad year with former champions.

I remember Barry Stringer as an outstanding player in a red-hot era of footy. A penetrating left foot kick and very good overhead. RIP.

Mick: Barrie's article, as usual, is a fantastic unassuming precis of a mans involvement with another. His continued involvement with you're footy club is , to say the least, enviable. A legend.

Had a great first year in '84, kickng 37 goals off a half-forward flank.
IIRC, his last game for Port was the great comeback against Glenelg in round 3, 1986.
Kicked an important goal late in the match running up the guts.
Career ended in controversy when he was sacked after a front bar punch-up with several team-mates. One of them allegedly insulted his girlfriend.
R.I.P. Steven Knight.
