For those Doggies fans (and general cricket fans) that might be interested in seeing some of Centrals league players swing a bat, check this out from the Centrals web site...

Players from the Central District Football Club and Northern Districts Cricket Club are set to clash from 4:00pm on Sunday 15th February in a Northern Sporting Club Twenty20 Cricket Game at Salisbury Oval. Following the success of the concept in 2006 and 2007, the two Clubs will again do battle to claim bragging rights for another year.

Whilst teams are yet to be finalised, the Central District Football Club team is expected to include Co-Captain Paul Thomas along with Chris and James Gowans while the Northern Districts Cricket Club team will include Redback Mark Cosgrove as well as English recruits Merv Westfield from Essex and Ben Wright from Glamorgan.

Admission to the event is free, with full catering facilities available and is set to be an entertaining and fun day for the whole family.

Went to one of these games a couple of years ago and it was a good laugh, will head along to this one I reckon, should be good fun seeing the Gowans boys having a hit !!!

That's excellent Smac, of course for a great cause, well done to all involved for organising that...

Of course, we wont be seeing the Gowans' v Cosgrove battle now as Cozzie will be down at Adelaide Oval with the Redbacks...

Great to see him get 100 yesterday, hopefully this is the start of a form resurgance and he goes on to make a really big score today...

Looking forward to getting along to the clash tomorrow, should be a great evening and of course, for a wonderful cause now as well...

Well regardless of what sort of side they put out there, I'm sure our boys will embarass themselves. The Under 14 Reds would probably belt us.

Went along to this 20/20 game earlier this afternoon and it was a good game to watch with Northern Districts winning pretty comfortably in the end. I think they made 160 odd batting first with some really big hitting towards the end. The Dogs fell short by 50 odd runs but there were a feew handy cricketers out there on display.

The Doggies players rotated a bit after 10 overs and from what I remember the following players were out there at some stage:

Chris & James Gowans, Tim Demasi, Trent Goodrem, Paul Thomas, Keiran McShane, Chad O'Sullivan, Ian Callinan, Luke Habel, Justin Hardy, Sean Brading, Mitch Frail, Daniel Havelberg, Brayden O'Hara, Ryan Williams and maybe a couple of others I can't remember right now.

With the ball, a few boys showed they have a bit of pace with Brayden O'Hara, new recruit Mitch Frail and Sean Brading pretty handy with the ball. Trent Goodrem was amazingly on a hat trick twice but missed out both times and Ian Callinan dropped on of the easiest catches you will ever see.

He made up for it with the bat making a qucik fire 30 odd, including a lengthy partnership with skipper Paul Thomas who handled the bat fairly well also. One of the Gowans twins was out for a duck and threw the bat as he was walking off. One of the Gowans boys and Hav shared the keeping duties and didn't do too bad with the gloves.

All in all, it was a great afternoon and there was hopefully a bit of coin raised for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal. Not the same as seeing the boys in a trial game of football but nonetheless, it was good to see them having some fun and share a beer and a laugh afterwards.

Almost $500 from the BBQ and almost $200 from the raffle, straight out donations had not yet been counted when I left but it was hopeful that the tally passed $1000 for the day. Well done to all involved.
