Yeah, I know it's BigFooty but what do the real SANFL fans say about these comments?

For those having trouble with the link (probably just my machine) here's what the big footy bufoon had to say...

Larry the Liquidator @ BigFooty wrote:A few months ago, in a thread which has since been deleted, the current Central Districts' place in SANFL history was being debated. There were some silly enough to suggest that the Centrals of the past 10 years could be mentioned in the same breath as some of the great Port sides of the past. It was a stupid argument and only endured because some are too stubborn to want to admit when they are wrong.

Anyhow, I mentioned in that thread at the time that according to my West Adelaide supporting brother, the reason why Centrals continued to dominate was because it stacked its side with AFL rejects whereas the other SANFL clubs took the time to develop[ future stars which eventually get drafted at the national draft. Of course, some CD fans tried to refute this comment.

Did anyone bother to do a quick mental count of the clubs which lost out most in Saturday's draft? I did.

It appears WWT clearly is the big loser, followed by West Adelaide and then North Adelaide. CD, the two-time defending champions, did not have one player drafted. Not one. Have my brother's words ever rung more true than now. Now I know that Port did not have a player of its drafted either. But Port are not the current powerhouse side of the SANFL. Remember, this is a side which, according to a few Centrals fans, could give the Port sides of the early 80s, the late 80s and mid 90s a run for its money. These Port sides would lose a handful of players to the AFL every year. Yet with Centrals, not one player drafted this year. Those upcoming teams which would have challenged Centrals for the title have now been decimated at the draft, leaving the AFL reject stacked Centrals to run out next year pretty much unchallenged.

What a sad state the SANFL is in.

What this person fails to recognise is that while it is great to have players drafted from their local clubs, that is not the purpose of what SANFL clubs play football for. Is it not to win Premierships, and hello, Centrals have been the best at doing that for the last decade. And here is in interesting fact to counter his point about Centrals stacking their side with AFL rejects - Out of the 56 individual players that have won 1 or more Premierships for Centrals there is ONLY a total of 3 players out of the 56 who were recruited as AFL "rejects" - Danny Stevens, Simon Arnott and James Gowans. Approximately 30 to 35 of them are or were local products from the northern suburbs or Barossa area.

Yes, they have recruited interstate players in years gone by and have had a pretty good success rate with this, but this only makes up for the remaining 20 odd players. While it is important for clubs to develop players coming up through the junior ranks, how is it Centrals "fault" that they focus their energies and priorities on winning premierships. Thier yard stick is measured in premierships, not by how many players they have recruited into the AFL. I'm sure that is the same priority for all other * SANFL clubs, it just seems some supporters of certain other clubs can't seem to hide their jealousy too well.

Get over it I say and move on with the times Larry, stop hanging on to the past

Larry the Liquidator - what a tool.
I remember debating with him previously on Big Footy.
He's just decided to take a shot at Centrals again. Yawn.

I'm not sure how he turns the debate from Centrals not having players drafted to the side being stacked with AFL rejects.
How does that equate? It's an Anna Coren classic I reckon.

Anybody else notice a sudden increase in Port Fans attaching themselves to any theory that denegrates the CDFCs recent achievements.

Im also very surprised a Norwood fan found this article of any interest at all.

To my calculations. In 2008 West had 17 players on an AFl list.
Whilst The CDFC had 14.

Do you honestly think it is these three extra players that is the reason the CDFC have 6 of the last 8 flags. And West have won how many wooden spoons in a row ???

Norwood had more players on an AFL list last year than the WAFC. IMHO I think Westies fans need to find a better excuses for the Port fans to attach themselves to.

UK Fan, in defence of REB (the Norwood fan in question), he only asked what others thought of Larry's post. He didn't make a comment either way on his thoughts.

From my understanding the comments are based around bringing players to the SANFL from the AFL,not the other way around.

The logic or point was very hard to understand for me, Booney. Using Larrys logic (his team) Port should be a "powerhouse" this year just because they had noone drafted (yet, like Central) and actually have ex-afl players in the side. I wont use his terminology "rejects", because I don't believe this to be true. Anyway, I don't think too many understand what point he was tryuing to make, especially as he couldn't back it up with facts. An example is to say, "It appears WWT clearly is the big loser" shows how off track and moronic his thought process is. I'm sure anyone reading this site would like their teams, youngsters to stay in the state if drafted.

We would be the biggest loser if all four were drafted interstate. I'm sure the WWTFC has a good junior structure in place not only to help players achieve their AFL goal, but to also provide enough players for the club to use as well.

No logic in Larry's post on Bigfooty, in recent years Ive been quite envious of how many Dogs players are from their area.
My club has stuff all it seems.
I'd even go as far to say that I think if there was a no recruits from interstate policy Central would be even more dominant!

what a tosser

i'm sure had we beaten central back in october it would have felt the same as the other 3 i've witnessed & i'd suggest that this present central team would beat port of the 80's & 90's as much if not more as port would beat them
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

I personally think that Larry is a tad envious over Centrals current dominance. What looked like unbeatable records which Port held are now being beaten and other records are in danger.

From the Port supporters i know they are worried Centrals are starting to make their premiership records slightly less signifigant by beating these records.

Who cares? The SANFL isn't going to take any of our flags away because or what some Port fan thinks. We all know his assertion about the dogs relying on AFL rejects is crap, but the one point he is missing is this: If we are so bad, what are the others doing? His own beloved Port Adelaide have hardly fired a shot in the last decade with West, WWT, North, Glenelg and Sturt all getting to the GF in the 2000s but not Port.

The SANFL is no doubt a different comp, and a lifetimes worth of arguments can be made as to where it sits compared to the 20s, 60s, 70s or 80s. The entire game has turned on it's head in the last 20 years and the profile and relevance of the SANFL to the "highest level" along with it. Clubs are forced to abide by different rules and fight new battles in terms of money, sponsorship, playing stocks, public profiles and membership they didn't have 20 years ago. The results the CDFC have got in this climate deserve credit akin to what Port did in the 1950s. Port in the 80s and 90s had to simply follow the blueprint. Centrals made the modern blueprint when at no other time in the history of the SANFL, save when it first started, was there such a dramatic change in the comp IMHO.

..or Norwood. :( But it's up to us to catch the Dogs, not rely on bringing the Dogs 'down to earth'. How does that help the competition.
