Our club has seen major chances since the end of the season. Our new CEO has been very busy and is enjoying being at our club. Chris is catching up with many from the cricket world this weekend but will be very carefully monitoring the draft tomorrow morning.

We are really very pleased to welcome back Rhett Biglands as a fulltime Eagle and he looks good at training as do all the boys. Some have had some medical procedures undertaken but we are hoping all will be ready for round one.

Jay Cheep will be joining the group next week and we look forward to welcoming him to the Eagles nest. All members who have registered their email address would have received the media release re Hayden Skipworth so will be watching the draft with much interest. Remember you will only get the emails each week from the club if you are a member – a members only benefit.

Regards the draft our website gives details of some of our lads who could be in the running to be drafted – a summary follows - go to the club website for more details.

Christopher Hall - DOB: 25/6/1990 - Height: 175cm - Weight: 70kg
A courageous small midfielder with clean hands, who is very creative. Hall has good awareness and also seems to have time and space. South Australian under-18 representative in 2008. From Flinders Park FC.

Matthew Broadbent - DOB: 1/8/1990 - Height: 189cm - Weight: 81kg
A hard-running defender who can also play run-with roles, Broadbent is courageous and has clean hands. His long kicking was a feature for South Australia at the NAB AFL under-18 championships this year. From Henley FC.

Jarrad Redden - DOB: 27/12/1990 - Height: 203cm - Weight: 90kg
A Tall Forward/Ruckman from Yorketown who is in his first year at the Club after a successful junior basketball career at State and District level. Jarrad played his first league game in 2009 against North Adelaide. Jarrad also played for SA in the U18 National Championships.

Glenn Dawson - DOB: 30/9/1990 - Height: 185cm - Weight: 75kg
An athletic tall forward who regularly takes a spectacular mark, is explosive and a very good kick for goal. Glenn was the Clubs best player during the 2009 U19 finals campaign and played one game for SA against WA in the U18 National Championships. From Balaklava (APFL)

Our Website is being updated regularly and well worth a visit with details of signings and a background on Chris Davies plus gives all the details re membership for 2009 and you can join or renew your membership on line.

Great value packages are available including a season ticket with full membership for just $125 - 20 games plus membership saving $120 on the total package –instead of $10 at the gate you get membership and still only pay $6.25 a game!!!!

Please be advised that 3 Board positions are advertised for nominations – ad with all the details was in today’s Advertiser – nomination forms are available from the club.

Training commenced on November 10th and has been going very well. Mark Harris, our conditioning coach said “he was happy with the way that the boys presented themselves. The players have come back in very good condition.” The players are training four times per week:

We are delighted to be able to announce the following appointments to our coaching panel for 2009. Ron and the Board are delighted to have retained our quality underage coaching team from 2007/08 with Terry taking the U18 position and Anthony moving from U19 to reserves assistant. Also we are thrilled with Andrew Rogers being able to again commit to the club as well as Mark Jeffries taking over the coaching of the reserves for 2009. The quality of our junior coaches is also very exciting.

Keep safe over the silly season – no drink driving and I’ll see you at the footy in 2009.

(Also just to be clear I am CD1 and the new CEO is CD2 at the club - I'm claiming age and wisdom Chris just says it is because I'm usually more seedy than most after a couple of drinks!!)

Well done to the Eagles lads that got drafted. Broadbent, Redden and Dawson to the Power and Hall to Freo.

A couple of years ago we had no one with the Power and now we've got 5 players with them. As well as 5 locals with the Crows (plus Jacky and Knights). Makes juggling the team a bit difficult for Fuller - it would be tempting to pass on the mini-draft...

Wont be many in the local mini draft hey with three of the guys Eagles players.
So does that mean WWT will now go and do some more player shopping ?

Seven interstaters picked by local AFL clubs. Nine rookie spots still to be filled. Some very good players for the local internal draft.
Trengove
McKernan
Davenport (Geelong VFL B&F winner)
Sloane.

I would like the Eagles to take Davenport - a midfielder

looks certain Skipworth is now coming home and maybe also Sam Jacobs

the competition will be very strong for a place in the side next year

great to see!

Looking optimistic, but there's still the Rookie and Pre-Season draft left to go. At least we know that Broadbent, Dawson and Redden are staying in SA.

Once again we have shown all that our development programs are of the highest quality providing 4 of the 13 drafted from SA.

The results of the draft now make further decisions very interesting at Oval Ave - good luck to the coaches & the footy dept!

Congratualtions to our 4 draftees - details on our website.

From our programs we have 5 at the Power in Broadbent, Dawson, Redden, Salter & Stewart
At the Crows we have Shirley, Burton, Hentschell, Bock, Petrenko plus via local draft Knights and Jacky. Plus we regain in our own right players originally Eagles lads in Biglands, McGregor and likely Skipworth.

Will make for interesting times in team balance as to who is available. Great for the lads not leaving the state and for us in that we may still have their services but can also pose selection headaches.

Micky - issues with players such as Tom for example will now be able to be concluded plus still have rookie draft to get through.

Draft results also a pat on the back to the system Ron Fuller has developed along with the junior coaches in Terry Hutton and Anthony Lamond - which is why we are so pleased they remain as coaches at the Eagles

The rucks will be interesting if Biglands plays and Jacobs returns, along with Redden staying in Adelaide. Perhaps Biglands will play as a permanent forward and Jacobs and Redden will be left to fight out the 2nd ruck spot. Dabrowski being number 1.

Is Cicolella playing on next year?

Good news. He'd be like a new recruit if he can get through without major injury.

Still got the Rookie draft and preseason draft to get through. Very difficult given some lads still in that mix.

Well the most important recruit has the preseason draft to go through ;)
On the VFL forum they are predicting 10 vfl guys being taken in the rookie draft .I wonder how many of our guys will get taken by the local teams .

The trouble is, after a draft and a gun recruit gets taken leaving extra funds, It can be too late to grab that big name as the bird could have already flown

True Dash
I would hope that someone at Oval Ave has a plan B.
