Central District Football Club has capped off a stellar season, receiving the 2008 South Australian of the Year Sport Award.

SANFL Executive Commissioner Leigh Whicker today extended his congratulations to the club.

“The Central District board, administration and players have set new benchmarks for the SANFL and South Australian football over the past nine years,” he said.

“This outstanding result is a reflection of the professional approach of the board and club to their business.”

Central District is the largest community football club in the state and actively supports the development of local footballers.

Its remarkable premiership haul continued in 2008 when the Doggies defeated minor premiers Glenelg to clinch their seventh flag this decade.

All South Australian of the Year Award winners were announced at a black tie ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Ballroom last night (Thursday, November 20).

The annual awards recognise the work of inspirational South Australians.

Well done to the club, another great achievement in their long list of honours over the last decade.
