A Heritage Round in 2009

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on the idea of having a specific round set aside next season to be a "Heritage" round where the clubs involved get out one of their previous guernseys used?
The two clear advantages that I can see is that it creates more interest in the SANFL from nominal supporters in the community and it provides the clubs a good opportunity to get some revenue by the eBay auctions of the said guernseys after the match!
Thoughts?

If they have one, it would be a round where the Eagles (no offence) have the bye, but dont think heritage rounds are necessary unless its has some significance. eg <insert round figure> year anniversaries etc

What he said. It's too contrived like the AFL rubbish and that mob are running out of ideas anyway.

I'm in favour of the Heritage Round concept in the main.
However, there are some quite laughable matches being played in this round between clubs that are not exactly fierce rivals from any era, other than to say they were paired up because Sturt, Norwood, Port, Glenelg were already matched up elsewhere and they need to complete the fixture with other matches.
Heritage Rounds should continue to be concentrated on particular eras, ie. if it was the 80's, perhaps you'd look at Glenelg vs. North or Glenelg vs Port...

Been done to death IMHO already in the SANFL.
Before anyone shoots to me down I have been to every Heritage game played by the Eagles.The only jumper left for them to wear would be as the PORT NATIVES!!

I agree with you Micky, it needs a rest for a few years now. Rivalry round is another matter altogether, be good to continue those in some ways.
Centrals are out of guernsey to wear as well.

Win 400 flags and then decide you don't want to embrace the history of the comp...
PS - will Central play Central in 25 years time when we look back at our Heritage in a future Heritage Round? Be no one else that they could play...

Rivalry round in the SANFL would be interesting. Could Port play against a few clubs at once?

Do they need to combine a heritage round with a particular decade from the past for a true rivalry round? Not many rivalries have existed since way back when and they've often changed over time.
Ie., based on the 60's you would have Port v Sturt as the main rivalry, but if you were looking at the 50's it would probably be Port v Westies.

I think what Mickyj means, is that (and Dogs fans can correct me here) is that the only other team that Central have a huge rivalry with is Port Adelaide. But Port will always be paired with Sturt, Norwood and Glenelg in this round. So in a rivalry round, we will always be paired with Central. Which is fair enough.

What about the 1993-97 guernsey? I love that guernsey, and it hasn't been worn in a heritage concept yet.

I would love to see Glenelg's 1934 jumper worn once a year, think the last time was 04 against North.

So choose the 90's as the decade to base it on (if you dont want to be paired with the Dogs again) and have CD v Port as the headline act, North v West (91gf), Norwood v WWT (93gf), and then one more game out of Sturt, South and the Bays, most likely Sturt v Glenelg (but possibly South v Glenelg).

I would like to see a Black and Gold guernsey worn by the Bays instead of Dark Brown and Gold
they wore this year

There is always that white one with the matching white socks...
