i thought it was an overall superb display as they let it go all day, i thought bowen was a little tentative in the early stages of the 2nd quarter (everyone out there was a little bit tentative at that stage) but apart from that i thought they were all superb
what did you guys think ?

I liked the way they let the game go but there were only 2 holding the ball decisions paid all day and they were that obvious, "blind Freddy" would have paid them.
-My point is blokes were takng on the tacklers and being spun 360 degrees and not look like getting rid of the ball but getting away with it.

I thought it was absolutely sensational, from a neutral point of view.
I sat in front of the Snouts in the 2nd half and they had some issues with some decisions but I thought they were a tad biased.
Probably one of the best performances Ive seen by the men in white, would love it if they could umpire every game every week like that but I suppose the 3 best umpires were in the GF so we cant expect that effort from them all.

I watched the game on tv and didn't even notice them. A good sign! Maybe we can spread out the games over different time slots next season so they can umpire every game?

I havent seen the game, but I spoke to a mate about it (Bays man) and he said he thought the umpiring was easily the best he's seen all year.

Yep agree with all. Bagged them after the second semi when I thought they were ordinary, but were very good on Sunday. Only bad decisions I reckon - Dogs got a goal to the southern when when it should have been push-in-back to Bays, and then Gowans' free and subsequent reversal in third quarter.

I didn't even think of it until now, which means it must have been great.

Didn't see the game but while I think it's great that in a GF they let the game go a bit more the move not to pay 'holding the ball' as an example, is rediculous. We have rules for the game that the players have been playing to all year why throw it out the window for one game.

as a neutral supporter you can easily decide on the umpiring of the game instead of being one-eyed. they umpired the game very well, gave the decisions when it was there and let the game flow which is what you want.

I too thought they umpired well - only criticism is, why did they going from bouncing the ball in the first half to throwing it up in the 2nd half?
It messes with the Ruckmans timing and became a distinct advantage for McKenzie to grab the ball out of ruck contests.

Agreed Bayman - I thought they were very good.
The fact none of us were talking about them following the game says it all!

Yeah they were the only two I raised an eyebrow at.
From my point of view they were pretty good. No complaints from me.

Good to see Sam Hay get the gig.
Shame on the SANFL for deleting two of my most respected Umpires.....no names mentioned

Sunday's umpiring was the best I'd seen all year. Hardly noticed them, and they allowed play to flow on without picking up ticky-touch frees.
They should use footage of how they umpired as a perfect example of how to umpire football.

A copy of the game should be a "compulsory view" by those "muppetts" who over officiate and sanitise the AFL version of Australian Rules ............and please in 2009 get rid of the microphones , lose the 50m rule and have a real crack at common sense!
Well done to the SANFL on delivering a product that is very popular and continues to attract "real footy" fans.

I was only concerned with the first couple paid, in front of goal in Q1 were a tad soft.
But it did not set any sort of precedent for the day, and having not yet seen the match on TV I thought (as do others in this thread) by their lack of conspicuous nature they were terrific.
Big thanks to Shane Harris for giving us
Timmy!
