Congratulations to the Reserves coming from the Elimination Final to be worthy Grand Finalists. We wish all the boys and the coaches the best of luck for Sunday’s game at AAMI.
Main training for the group is Wednesday night at Thebarton Oval.

Mad Monday will be this Monday for the whole squad as the league boys have put it on hold while the Ressies have their finals campaign.

It is a busy month for our club – much happening – check the coming events list -more details on the club website. Plus Ron Fuller’s appraisal of our last game makes interesting reading. Also on the website are the weekly articles by Tom Couch and are always an entertaining read.

MEMBER’S NEWS

We are introducing a loyalty programme for members which will be back-dated. So if you were a member in 2007 but haven’t joined for 2008 you only have a couple of weeks to get on board and keep your membership continuous and get the loyalty rewards. Details will be announced in the new year.

From season 2009, the weekly emails will only be sent to Eagles members. You will no longer be able to register to receive emails through the website. So if you wish to continue receiving the email updates, make sure you are a 2009 member and fill in your email address on the membership brochure.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL EAGLE MEMBERS - Without me driving everyone nuts we have for the 4th consecutive year broken the 2000 mark for membership. Currently we have 2013 – about 140 down on last year’s record total – but there is still time - if you’re not a member then please get on board.
This is a great testament to Eagle fans as although we haven’t performed as we’d all wish the vast majority of members have stuck by the club. Thanks to all who have joined up – your support is very much appreciated.

MEMBERS NIGHT – each Thursday at the Club
Every Thursday night at the Eagles Club financial members are in the draw to win CASH (must be present to claim). Make sure you come down to the Club on Thursday night for your chance to win. $500 went off a few weeks ago and the jackpot is growing again.

I think a few of the boys enjoyed the outdoor facilities down at the bay while they cheered on the reserves boys in the Elimination and 1st Semi Finals!

Not yet Spelly - will be confirmed at training tomorrow

Tom Couch's article is a good read - reprinted below

Grand Final Awaits

What an amazing experience Sunday was. Just like many of the boys, it was the first game I’ve played on Adelaide Oval. The atmosphere at the ground is quite amazing. The hills and the old Members stand mixed in with the new stand really does make for beautiful viewing. And the day was made even better by the fact we won by a point and are rewarded with a shot at the Grand Final against Sturt at AAMI Stadium.

I must congratulate the boys on such an incredible performance. Going into the game we were massive underdogs. We had played the ‘Bays’ just 5 weeks earlier and were easily outclassed. They gave us a nice old touch up and left our Finals chances hanging by a thread. But since that game we have improved a lot and we were confident of causing an upset. Since that game we have won all our 4 games and confidence was at all time high in the camp.

We knew Glenelg would be hurt after being smashed by Sturt the previous week and were going to come out firing, so we knew we had to match it with them physically early.

The first half was quite a rollercoaster ride. We had a lot of opportunities early but we weren’t making the most of them. Glenelg however seemed to be a lot more deadly in front of goal and at one stage were leading by 27 points midway through the Second Quarter. However credit to the boys we didn’t give in and were able to kick a couple late goals to trail by 16 points at the half time.

As I was sitting down in the rooms I remember thinking that we were right in the game and that if we had kicked straighter in front of goal, the scores could have been a lot closer. But you also have to be a realist and look at the bigger picture, we were trailing and it’s going to be pretty tough to fight back.

We did that and the rest is now history. The game against Sturt is going to be an even tougher test but the boys are determined not to just make up the numbers. They go into the game knowing they have been the best team of the year, but just like Hawthorn proved on the weekend, the 6 months leading up to it means nothing, it’s how you perform on the big day that counts most.
We look forward to the challenge and are determined not to let such a great opportunity go to waste.

All Eagles supporters are encouraged to make the trek to AAMI Stadium on Sunday to support the boys.

Limited tickets are available at the Club so get in quick.

For more information please call the Club on 8347 2444.
