Head to head:

Played 47: Sturt 18 Eagles 29
Finals 2: Sturt 1 Eagles 1

This is the first Grand Final meeting between the two sides. Prior to 1991, Sturt defeated Woodville in the 1977 Grand Final, and lost to West Torrens in the 1968 Grand Final. Torrens also won two premiership deciding matches against Sturt in 1919 and 1920 under the Argus system.

The two Reserves finals that WWT and Sturt have met in were both 1st Semi Finals:
2000: Eagles 5.11 Sturt 1.4
2002: Sturt 10.7 Eagles 9.5

Since 1931, Sturt has played in 9 Grand Finals, for three premierships - 1949, 1977 and 1999. The 1999 flag was against South, and the last Reserves GF that Sturt have played in.
The Eagles have played in 6 Grand Finals, for 5 wins - 1992, 1993, 2000, 2001 and 2004. The other Grand Final was in 1991, a loss to South by 2 points.

Four Reserves team have won the flag from the Elimination final - South in 1979, Woodville in 1987, Torrens in 1990 and Eagles in 2000. However Sturt have the best record in each of the seasons that those four clubs beat. Central only lost two matches as well in 1987; Sturt have a better % than Central did.

F*** it, of all our teams today I thought these blokes were Montys to make the GF. Feel sorry for Micky Godden as he is a super coach. North would do worse than to look at him closely.

Sturt to win by PLENTY next week, although the self-assuredness of some of the Sturt staff I saw and heard today during the Prelim Final, might just be their downfall.

According to some of the Sturt coaching staff, Sturt to win easily.

Discussion halfway through the 3rd Qtr.

SAC: "How did the Eagles go against us in the Ressies this year?"
SRC: "Got within 10 goals."
SAC: "Oh, so they were about the only team that troubled us all year then."
Maxyoz: "Umm, we actually beat you guys."
SAC: "Did you? OK."
SRC: "Yep, at Glenelg, by about 4 goals."

About 10 minutes later:

SAC: "Sorry, didn't mean to come across so cocky or arrogant."
Maxyoz: "That's ok, just hope no one uses it against you next week."

What's the qualifying criteria for a league player to play in a reserves GF?
Is it the same as AFL player in the League, 3 games (byes included)?

I believe a player has to play 3 of the last 5 games of the H&A games that the club play or a majority of the grade that the player is playing in. I hope that it helps.

Got me beat.

Fitzgerald played most of the year, including last few games, in league. But he can play 2's.

Klun was in and out for the year, got injured in league late in season and missed some games, but didn't play the last couple of rounds in 2's. But he can play.

Schwarze played most of year in A's, but was genuinely dropped about half a dozen games out. But he's not playing - is that he can't play, or isn't playing for some other reason>

Schwarze was deemed a senior player by the league

good to see him there at the game on sunday

looks like he is staying which is good imo

KLUN 7 league games and four reserves games, last reserves game in June = he should not be playing

Fitzgerald 16 league, 4 reserves. What the **** = no way he should be palying (bump into him in the street and I bet he calls himself a league footballer)

Schwarz 12 league 4 reserves, no senior football since July 5, all four reserves after this date but not allowed to play = of the 3 he is the one who has the most right to play but SANFL said no.

Can someone please explain the SANFL logic.

The other question is would the eagles be better served by giving Dawson, McMahon and Hank this week, not so much for the chances of winning but giving these boys the experience.

The SANFL permit commissioner has made the rulings and we abide by them.
Fair to say we were disappointed that some players who we felt had qualified were deemed to be ineligible.

The umpire has spoken.
