Delisted/Retired AFL players potential SANFL recruits in 09

I know the SANFL season still has 2 big games to go and of course the AFL has the final showdown this weekend...

BUT...

Some clubs have already delisted players and we heard of a few more in the last couple of days...

Got me thinking will there be any interest from SANFL clubs with some of these players who don't find another home at AFL level ???

We know there was rumour about Jeff White being linked to North Adelaide and I know that Centrals could do with a quality ruckman so would hope they look at him if he is available.

Peter Street was delisted by Western Bulldogs yesterday and of course Scott West was told he is no longer required by the club he gave so much to over an extended career.

Would these 2 guys get any interest from SANFL clubs ? I would think so, even Scott West at his age would have a couple of good years left in him in the SANFL and would still look good running around as a red, white and blue Bulldog in the SANFL.

I think ruckman Peter Street would get a bit of interest as well and like mentioned above with the Dogs need for a good ruckman for next year, the former Geelong beanpole might be on Kris Grant's radar for 09.

Of course Centrals (and Glenelg or Sturt) stil have more important things to worry about this year before adressing their playing list for 09 but it will be interesting to see what eventuates with possible AFL delisted players being hunted by SANFL clubs. I guess time will tell hey...

Im pretty confident without him being delisted from the Hawks as yet that Tim Clarke will be speaking to North soon.

Scott west must have better offers for next year than come and play SANFL.

Phil, I think Scott West wouldn't even slightly consider playing footy here. His knee's just about shot, and even if it wasn't as bad after a few months off, I can't see him upping and moving to Adelaide for maybe one year of footy.

If we are supossed to be the best state League in the lanf and have a higher salary cap than all the others, where would this better offer come from ? I wouldn't think an SANFL club would look at him with the age and the knee, just threw his name up to see what others thought.

Also some stories from Hobart's THE MERCURY that many star Tassie Devils players are looking at the SANFL given the Devils have folded to be replaced by a Tasmanian State League in 2009.

Got any potential names Phil ???

Centrals have had a bit of a history recruiting Tasmanians...

Ian Callinan, Ben Britton, Travis Ronaldson, Keiran McShane just to name a few...

With Callinan and McShane hopefully sticking around at Centrals in '09, may help lure a few of the Tassie Devils to Doggyland...

As you mentioned if Street got delisted he'd be definately chased, I saw him playing for Williamstown last week and he was dominant and did a lot around the ground too, would run amock at SANFL level.
Word is that he'll be traded at this stage though.

Huh, you say they were in Melbourne "recruiting" players were they ? So does that mean they have signed anyone yet and released it to their members and the media etc. I would have thought they were scouting potenetial recruits not signing them while their season is still underway ?

And yes, I do know that clubs "scout" during the actual season itself Tassie but what I meant is that they don't start "officially" signing players until the season is over...

Clubs aren't going to come out in Round 17 or 18 (or any round for that matter) and say "we have signed Scott West to a 2 year deal" are they ???

Well you can forget Scotty West,I saw a piece about him on tv yesterday and hes been told by his specialist he will never play footy again .
His knee is in that bad nick, bone on bone.
But Damien Peverill would be a handy pickup, hes delisted isnt he? :D

Yeah, I knew that about Scotty West, I just threw his name up because he was the most recently delisted (or not offered a contract if you prefer) player that I was aware of. Peter Street, as Wedgie pointed out, would be great at SANFL level and I think the Dogs should have a serious look at him if he doesn't get picked up by another AFL club.

Damien Peverill sould be good in the SANFL as well, but I guess you just don't know if would move interstate ir not. he may chose to just play locally in melbourne, although i did hear he hadn't given up hope of being picked up by another AFL club as well ?

Like i said with the opening post, only time will tell now I guess. I might have just got a bit ahead of myself in regards to posting this, i just was interested in other's opinions of players being delisted by AFL clubs. Once Geelong and Hawthorn play off on Saturday, we will start to hear about more and more delistings so this will be a good avenue for more discussion as it progresses along.

Life FM?

No doubt he will get an offer to write a newspaper article or do some TV/Radio for the AFL next year. If not, the AFL often seem to find jobs for players of his ilk and reputation.

Eddie is a gun...... when given the oppurtunity has played well for Noth Melbourne... would dare say better player than Travis Varcoe for Geelong if given the same oppurtunity and both Centrals boys..... (also know both boys vey well)
