could the preliminary final attract 30,000 ?

i think with the knowledge that these teams played in front of almost 12,000 at the bay earlier in the year, that given a nice day that 30,000 could be reached on sunday, i think 25,000-30,000 is definately a big chance
but what do you experts out there think ?

Will not go above 25. I'll say about 22k again.

I would have thought 18k at the most. Doubt too many neutrals would go along and probably anyone with much interest would have gone to the game earlier. Can't see the crowd being significantly larger unfortunately than that game. I give it a 5k limit.

25 to 30 k - no way. Certainly get more than we've had to Prelims in recent years, but I'd expect 16 to 17,000 given what the finals have drawn so far. Happy to be proved wrong of course.
Bit of ancient trivia: The last time these two played in a Preliminary Final was 1976. Sturt 18-13 (121), Glenelg 16-18 (114). FWIW, that match drew 29,202. The previous first two weeks - four finals - had drawn nearly 110k alone (not glaringly out of the norm for those days.)

Be suprised if it got over 20,000, but it'd be great. The pleasant thing is with SANFL finals is that you don't hear people talking about which final they can afford to go to choosing one over another.
Well done SANFL.

If it was Friday night they would, because its Sunday they'll get half of what they would Friday night.

I'll be there for the first couple games (19s and reserves) and I know a few Eagles fans going to the games as well.

I doubt the game would attract 30 000. PF crowds normally are lower than SF crowds as it's a standalone League final. Still, I think there would be a crowd around the 17-18 000 mark.

I am expecting a crowd of around 13,000
The weather is not going to help and only the one league game will cut down the figures from previous weeks.
It would be great to get 20,000 there though.
Oh am I the only one who thinks the crowd of 23,000 on sunday was a very similar size to the crowd of 15,000 the week before which a lot of us question was on the low side. Going by sunday I would say the week before we had 21,000.

the last time they got a crowd of over 15,000 for a prelim was the 2002 battle between Sturt and Norwood, this game will get close to that figure.

Yeah around the 15K. Weather will keep people away and the game will be on TV.

The Bays also being in the earlier matches might keep the crowd down, since there won't be two more sets of fans coming to see the ressies.

15k - dont forget a lot of people will have events on Sat arvo for the AFL GF and have to do family things on the Sunday as a result. Or they will just be too hung over to go.

Being hungover should be no excuse, I made it last year!

19,256 - 1992, Glenelg vs Eagles
18,338 - 1996, Port vs Norwood
16,327 - 1995, Central vs Norwood
Since 1997:
14,527 - 2002, Sturt vs Norwood
13,905 - 1998, Port vs West
11,427 - 2000, Eagles vs Sturt
10,672 - 1999, Norwood vs Eagles
10,589 - 1997, Norwood vs Central

It could be the biggest crowd since '97, but wont go close to beating the post '91 record
