Matthew Dawes and Stuart Bown have both retired after todays loss to ST
Both were carried off by team-mates after the game
NW stayed on the ground for 10 minutes after the loss to ST as I wondered why
Was it the loss or to say goodbye to 2 dedicated wonderful servants of the NFC ?

What these guys lacked in brilliance was made up by with courage.
BOWN to play with his much publised heart prob was amazing.
DAWES 'dont you love him madly', courage personified

Well played to both and all the best on the mounds cheering on our legs in future years

As I said in a previous post, we are in short supply of players who give 100% to the red & blue jumper. Bown and Dawes were two such players who left everything they had out on the field, and will be sorely missed in 2009.

Many years ago, Hawthorn coach John Kennedy Sr said that he never criticised Don Scott for making an error because it was only caused through trying too hard. I had the same feeling about Matthew Dawes. You only ever got the very best he could give.

Bown 168 games, Dawes 156 games .... it's going to leave a huge gap to fill.

Bown was a good consistent player at both ends of the field. Dawes...one of my favourite non-Pies and always seemed to tear us apart. Congrats on two very good careers!
