If this match is not a draw, this will be the final Under 17s match, the competition started in 1939 as the Junior Colts. Since 1974 it has been known as the Under 17s, which was around the time that the SANFL themselves took control of the competition. Before that, the SANFL teams took part, but it was independently run.

This is third Grand Final that these Under 17s clubs will meet in, in 1949 Sturt won 8.11 to 6.5 and in 1961 when Port won 11.9 to 6.10. This year, Port have been the only team to have beaten the Sturt side:

Rd 22: Port 8.10 Sturt 7.15
2SF: Port 15.8 Sturt 14.10

You would imagine that Sturt would be mighty keen to avenge for their last quarter two weeks ago at Woodville, but Port seem to know their game. One thing is for sure, this match will be a beauty.

Interesting that Port kicked 10 last quarter goals but you are suggesting that had no influence on the result..... obviously a very good judge....

Will be a great game, absolutely nothing between these teams. Sturt were very impressive on the weekend against North. O'Malley was very good in the middle and the forwards for Sturt presented well all day.
North didnt pay much respect to Sturt and allowed them far too much room.
You wouldnt think Port would make that mistake this weekend.

Obviously putting words into my mouth now. I never said that and I am not suggesting that the 10 goals kicked by Port had no influence on the result, of course it had an influence, it's just that Sturt had no respect for their opponents, they didn't man up, they didn't tackle, they didn't chase, these things helped Sturt lose the match.

The umpires for the last u17s game before the u18s start next year.

Sturt lost 2 games throughout the season in the 17's, both the Port, reckon this could be a cracker, saw Sturt beat our 17's last week and were not that impressive after 1/4 time, Port by 2 points
