Was the most expected reslt of the weekend IMO.

Two weeks ago said more about how poor we were rather than how good the Eagles were...

All I will say is that some of the Eagles supporters should throw shit at themselves with their behaviour today. Reminded me of a Crows game. Especially after yesterdays debacle at AAMI stadium. TIP - Opposition teams (And I hate Collingwood and Port like you wouldnt believe) CAN play good football (unfortunately ) its not always (THE MAGGOTT WHO HAS MONEY ON THE OPPOSITION !!!). After today, its no wonder us Eagles supporters get bagged. I left to come home at 3QT not because of our shithouse performance (I followed Woodville from the early 80s on so I am used to my side copping a flogging ) but because I was embarrased at my fellow supporters who would have been more at home in a zoo rather than a football game.

Where were you?

Very solid win by Port and it looked throughout that the Eagles playing virtually a final each week for the past few weeks finally caught up with them. Port just controlled it for most of the game and had many dominant performers. Perkins sensational, J. Clayton possibly banked more Magarey votes (almost unfortunately given he can't win), and a couple of massive marks from Waterhouse and Perkins. Very vocal atmosphere contributed to the finals-like feel.

A touching finale with Gavin Colville being chaired off. Certainly one of the all-time great servants of Woodville/West Torrens.

Gavin Colville a real servant to the game, a very honest & loyal clubman & definately respected player.

Congratulations to Magpies - certainly by far the best team today

We couldn't beat the Maggies in 3 goes this season but did beat the other 4 teams in the finals
(also couldnt beat North in 3 goes - a big difference a couple of wins could have made)

No Mad Monday for league players - all have committed to supporting the Reserves and U19s - only when they are finished will there be any player get together.

Was at this game today doing some Around The Grounds work and from what I saw the Maggies were clearly too good on the day. Eagles dissapointing because we know they are better than that. Simply got smashed through the midfield and were not hungry enough to win the hard ball. Struggled for cohesion in their forward line when the ball did go inside Eags 50.

Port showed that they will be more than competitive in the finals and of course it is now set up for a great finals series. Matty Lokan was superb on Passador, Tex Perkins was great on a wing, Clive Waterouse looked dangerous early before fading late, Mieklejohn the best big man on the ground, Murray, Dolling, DePasquale and Jeremy Clayton all hard at it and superb. Mark Clayton has looked dangerous when thrown up in attack for the Maggies and Josh Thurgood was excellent across half back.

The Eagles might have struggled for any 4 quarter consistant performers but I thought Zac Heir was good in defence, Adam Grocke tried hard at CHF, young Chris Hall had hs moments, Ken Mcgregor played okay at both ends of thr ground. Young Petrenko and Broadbent showed that they have a real future at AFL level and were clearly the Eags best while another youngster James Rimmington was good as well. A fitting chair off for Scratcher Colville after the game, announcing he retired from SANFL but not a fitting send off in terms of the teams performance.

A few highlights for me from today, in no particular order...

Meeting TigerBoss and being suprised that he was nothing like I expected !!
Meeting and having a chat to DB, the legend, before his call with RPH and then again in the Port room after (with the other caller Paul Blandis)
Having a beer with CK in the Port clubrooms after the game and briefly meeting that Port fella Barry Curtin !!
Having the opportunity to wish my 2 Dads a Happy Father's Day live on air, knowing they were listening in.

Port just too strong around the clearnaces yesterday.

Perkins and Jezza were both outstanding and the defence of Perry,Eicher and Cat are going to hold up well.I expect the Norwood game to be a belter.

Interesting stat from second quarter - Port inside 50s - 25, Eagles just 9 - makes life pretty hard for the forwards!

Thurgood outstanding yesterday in defence for Port, it was interesting reading todays advertiser, Warren Partlands best players not giving Thurgood any recognition for his superb effort. What game was he watching?
Waterhouse was a livewire up fwd & always looked dangerous, to be expected faded late in the game but would be happy to get through the game unscathed & know doubt will be better for the run.
Hargraves well what can you say? he looks really down in confidence & clearly doesn't work hard enough at ground level, its got me f----d
why he's always looking to go one on one & outbody his opponent, he looks beaten everytime, to get some confidence he needs to present far better than he's doing & take the ball infront of his eyes, 9 goals in his last 7 games is far from satisfactory but maybe it shows they havn't anything down there to replace him as they havn't dropped him.

Hargy is definately struggling, and what worries me is that he is so down on confidence, when the ball is delivered lace out he is trying to mark the ball on his chest and that allows the defender more opportunity to spoil. This is a sign of lack of confidence.

Thought Looby was very good yesterday, the run from defence was fantastic. The pressure the midfield applied around the packs was fantastic.
Tex Perkins was outstanding on the wing and i think Summo must stink cos no one wants to go near him...

I don't portray it on this site, but yes, I'll admit it, I'm a pretty hot looking bloke. I presume this is what you're alluding to being surprised about???

Port were superb yesterday.

Mark Clayton was exceptional up forward, along with Clive, Jezza Clayton and Hargy presenting.

I thought Perry and MeandJohn were good around the ground, and the usual suspects in Dolling, Summerton, Perkins, Murray and others controlled the play through the middle. Thurgood and Ah Choo were good down back too, and seem to be combining well together.

Port wanted it more. They were gritty and hard at it...but the Eagles didn't play with any of the intensity and heart that I witnessed in their win over the Bays a few weeks back. Perhaps the lead-up to the finals, as others have suggested, took the wind out of their sails too soon.

Must admit to being quietly happy that the Eagles aren't in the finals, given the fact if they played the Bays, they would probably knock us out. I'm sure Sturt are pleased that the Eagles aren't around to upset their September dreams too...

I'd expect Port to beat Norwood this week, on form only, but the Legs are an enigma at times, and will probably get up. Rest assured I hope there's a BIG crowd there to see this one.

Well done to Port who were far too good. Very disappointing from the Eagles to have two (Hier and Petrenko) and a half (Powell) good players in such an important game.

Hargraves didn't get a kick because Hier is a better player, and good to see him back playing good footy after injury problems.

Thought the umpiring was very good compared to what I've seen (mainly on telly) this year, and the free kicks of 16-5 against the Eagles at half time were justified.

I thought exactly the same thing.

I said yesterday that my top three would have been Clayton, Perkins and Thurgood, with Murray close behind.
