Sturt FC Official website

Can a Sturt member please explain why the Sturt website is the only SANFL official club website that has members only area? I would have thought that in this day and age and given Sturt's "wobbly" position off field that it would want to broaden it's exposure and base by as much as possible. Is there stuff in that section like coaches comments and match reports that are really that secret? What about blues fans who may be contemplating becoming a member - surely they would like to get as much of an overall idea of the club etc as they can? Having a members only/secret section can't be helping that cause?

This is a serious question before you blues fans get all fired up!

Easy answer: the powers that be wanted to encourage members to have something 'extra' to encourage people to join up. What's the point of paying for a service if you can get it for free?

Not say I agree or disagree with the policy, but that's the way they wanted it.

Two questions for you: why are you reading the SFC site and why do you care?

As a follower of the SANFL I like to keep "a breast " of the league in general as well as being a person that is passionate about the SANFL and like to see a healthy viable comp - including Sturt. So that's why I was reading it? So is that caring or not caring.

P.S. Is it okay for me to read your unofficial website or will you now make that members only too, following the example of the club's official line?

Do you have an issue with people who read other websites other than their own club's?

drebin, as barto says, its to encourage ppl to pay up, simple as that...now, with your connections, surely you can find out the info you need ;)

PS: im happy for it to be that way as well...being overseas, its a great thing to still support your club $$$wise and also stay in touch with whats going on...makes me feel special lol

I would like to know why I have been kicked off doubleblue.org. Perhaps I have been too positive.

Next it'll take a secret knock to get in to the club, and all Sturt members will greet each other with their own special handshake.

I can't see why any club would want a "members only" area on their website, it may have been different if memberships were at pre Crows numbers, but surely the information on the site can't be that secret.
The more information you make available to the general public, the more interest you gain, and hopefully that = more members, by shutting people out, you may also be pushing them away.

I think members should be "rewarded" for putting their money up- there are dfferent ways of doing it. North had a few "members only" comps, which is good. I don't have a problem with "members only" areas on websites- Metallica do it, I'm sure lots of sites reward members with additional information/competitions.

for what it is worth I think the members area on the official site is a crock
there is nothing in there that you cannot get from other sources ie. paper, other sites

and there are no secret game plans

Metallica - they should pay you to use their website!

I'm also inclined to agree that a "Members" only section is a good idea ... Surely members must be granted access to something exclusive to vindicate their status? A taste of general happenings etc should be available to the general public, but further detail only available to those who are financially supportive of their club, I commend the SFC on this ...

Mate, the blokes in Metallica are way into their 40s. I find it depressing that people my age know who they are!

How do you detect an angry tone from plain text? The only way that is possible if that's the way you read things.

If you're keen to keep abreast of news involving the SFC that isn't in the media or the unofficial site, you could buy a membership ;)

Just a question that's all barto - I wasn't sure where you were headed?

So can you get me a free Sturt membership so I can log in?

I cant even get myself one :P

By the way: you must sit here ready to pounce, I edited my original post a couple of minutes after as I had a feeling how it'd be taken. As to the question of making db.org a members only thing.. not sure. Are all forums on The Roost accessable to non-members?
