Sturt may have lost the game but the blues are looking a genuine chance to go top in the WA election - they need to win 1 more seat and they are in govt. (They needed 9 super goals, have kicked 8 super goals. (seats). 6-7% swing to Libs.).

Anyone know the 19s and Reserves scores?

disappointed to lose and hate the fact top spot is out of our hands and we need to rely on the legs to get up.

i slept through and forgot to set the alarm so i read the game thread on db.org and it seemed like we had our chances early and late.

glenelg have a great opportunity here as I wouldnt like to face the dogs again next week although atleast this time, we have the double chance.

Sturt won the twos by 10 or 11 goals

Listened in to most of the second half.
Sturt sure had their chances. The best word to describe that result has to be frustation from a Sturt point of view.
I guess these Dogs are old hands at this game at this time of year, and we just got our first taste of what they can produce to get the goods.
Well done Dogs, again showing that they know what to do at the business end of the year.
We have some work to do...

Well I just sat through the most annoying a f***ed up display from my AFL side against those tossers in Sydney... so adding that to a defeat at the Ponderosa, what a birthday I'm having today.

That loss to Centrals tonight is a crucial win for the Bays now... they'll slam the Legs, get top spot and laugh out loud as they watch the Dogs and Blues pummel each other next week.

An important win for the dogs as they have now beaten every other side in the comp.

Now for the serious stuff.

Bays have to win first. Nothing is a given in this comp. Turn up thinking they've got it won, and Norwood will be wearing coloured shorts next week.

tonight will be a great learning experience for the Blues and a timely "reality check" .....bring on next week !

Disappointing, I would have liked to see Glenelg not finish top.

First quarter was quite frustrating as Centrals blew many good opportunites - especially in front of goal. Despite Sturt dominating the bulk of the quarter, the scoreline read 1.3 to 4.0. Centrals had the same amount of scoring shots - were they going to kick themselves out of this game?

The second quarter was Centrals at their best. The tackling was the most ferocious I'd seen from the side all year. Their efforts were rewarded by the umpires, paying multiple frees for holding the ball. Luke McCabe was playing some of the best football he's played since his comeback with a couple of goals to see Centrals take the lead. Two late goals saw the lead blow out to 16 at half time.

The third quarter I thought would be the key, as the southern end was looking like the scoring end (despite no breeze). In what was an even term, Centrals outscored Sturt by a few points to lead by 20 at three quarter time.

Sturt came out fighting in the last quarter, kicking three of the first four goals. However, they also missed several straight-forward shots (including a couple from Chambers). Still, heading into time on (I was keeping time on my stop watch as the oval clock did not reset for the last quarter), Centrals was only up by 4 points and Sturt had the momentum. Then Ryan Williams lets fly from outside 50 and the ball bounces through for a goal. Another goal a moment later from Williams, and the margin is back out to 16 points.

The first quarter was predominantly Sturt, the second quarter was all Centrals, the second half was the tight, hard fought style of football we expected from the two sides.

The crowd was also fantastic - probably around the 6000 mark, with quite a few Sturt supporters making the trip up. It was a fantastic atmosphere.

Sturt have nobody but themselves to blame after the yips in that last term, they had the Dogs on toast with all the momentum. The difference between the teams tonight was that the Dogs capitalised on Sturt mistakes at crucial moments while Sturt did not - some of their tackling in the second term was abysmal and will need to be a damn sight better next week or we could be out in straight sets.

Bah, maybe I'm just grumpy cos Centrals ran out of hot food by half time - what are the odds of a shortage of junk food in Elizabeth?
