Finals team selection rules

I'm after some clarification here if anyone can help.

In the HFL, our club has a reasonably unique problem this week:

http://www.safooty.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=519&p=486922#p486922

Our A's are playing in a semi on Saturday and the Super b's are playing in a semi on Sunday. One of our A graders has unfortunately been left out of the side for Saturday and because the teams are playing on different days, he is inelligable to play for the Supers on Sunday. The real stupidity arises in this case because if the B's played on sat and the A's on sunday or both grades on the same day, he could play B's no problems. The shitty HFL rule disqualifies him from playing on the Sunday because he was dropped from a higher grade for a game on a day when that higher grade is not playing.

Does anyone know if this has ever happened in the SANFL? I can't recall it ever being an issue because I understand the Ressies play Sat and the League play Sun (although I stand to be corrected on that), so this would never be an issue. However, has there been a day gone by where the 1st v 2nd/3rd Semi for both Ressies and League was played on Sat and then the 2nd3rd v 4th/5th Semi played on the Sun? If so can anyone remember this case popping up and how the SANFL dealt with it?

I think this is totally unfair and unreasonable.

It doesn't happen in the SANFL because the Bs are the day before the As in our finals but if it did he would be eligible to play Bs if dropped from the As.

Similar has happened with players being dropped from AFL to SANFL and even if they haven't played a game all year they're still eligible to play for the SANFL side as long as their AFL side plays that weekend.
Seems like a crazy rule you guys have to deal with.

Except for the Prelim and GFs are on the same day in the SANFL.

Reserves are still played before the League. 1 day or 1 minute, same thing.

Thanks for the responses fellas. I forgot about the AFL thing. If a player dropped from the SANFL Ressies back to our club, he would be ineligable to play in our league.

Mighty Eagles, our prelim and GF days have all grades playing on the same days, as I'm sure happens in most other leagues. The only times this can happen is in the first 2 weeks of a finals series when a club can have both senior grades playing on different days.

The only 'fix' I can see foe the problem is to have both sides of a finals draw for the first 2 weeks played on the same day, which is not practical especially if you have both grades involved and potentially playing at different grounds.

Basically, the HFL stinks and someone is on an ego trip with this one. Our club has won the last 2 A grade flags and last 3 B grade flags. Pbviously someone at the top wants a new winner this year - by any means possible.

The 17s will be a couple weeks early and has been early for the last few years.

Obviously it is not an issue these days with the way SANFL finals are structured, but could have been pre-1991. Whether it happened or not, don't know; or how big an issue would have been made of it.

Surely any league around finals time could be more professional than that. Is there a requirement for clubs to submit there teams to the league on the Thursday night, or something similar.

Seems bizarre given your A-grade has already played and so he was legitimately dropped
