Matthew Slade's 200th Game

Congratulations to our co-captain Matthew Slade on his 200th game this Saturday night against Sturt at Elizabeth

Starting somewhat as a late bloomer (making his league debut at 20) what a career "Bomber" has had since coming down from Galwer Central.

One of only 3 players left to have played in all 6 League Premierships for Centrals (of course the Gowans twins are the other 2) Sladey becomes just the 14th Centrals player to play 200+ league games for the club.

Here is a link to a good story written in the Messenger by journo Reece Homfray...

http://news-review-messenger.whereilive.com.au/sport/story/dogs-say-i-do/

I found it interesting to read that if Sladey didn't make it at Centrals, he had a written invitation to join the Eagles. I'm so glad then coach Peter Jonas saw enough in him to sign him up, I'd hate to think Sladey would have gone to play for any opposition side.

CONGRATULATIONS SLADEY....

This guy is an absolute legend! Had the Magarey sown up about 4 seasons ago, only to be bitten by a bloody White-tailed Spider! Missed about 5 or 6 games & didn't win the medal. A top bloke, his old man's a legend & his mum is a hell of a drinker of Brandy & Lemonades!! Good on ya' Sladey!!

Well done Sladey - played well in 99 per cent of those games too.
Always been good around the packs.

So good, Eminem wrote a song about him. Will the real slim sladey, please stand up?

Well done Sladey, a true club man who has just got on with business.

Interesting to note that this weeks game will be Sladey's 200th SANFL appearance but only his 198th for Central Districts.

Having played in 2 State Games for SA, Bomber has donned the red, white and blue 197 times and with at least 2 games left in the finals for the Dogs after this week's game, it's good to know he will play 200 league games for the club, only the 14th player to do, but still a long way off Milky Vivian's record 308 games.

Once again, well done Sladey, et's hope the boys can have a win for you...

It is 200 Club games, the Budget included the State matches for a short while last year, before taking them out again.

I wasn't sure with that Spelly, I only posted that because I was having a chat with Centrals historian and sports journo Robert Laidlaw and he mentioned that it was only Slade's 198th club game for the Dogs due to the 2 State Games being played ???

The Budget lists Gavin Colville at 230 games last round, which is what I have. In addition to that, he has three state games to his credit, making a total of 233. So, I don't know, maybe the Central records in the Budget include State games, and other clubs may not.

my sister used to teach with him and she reckoned he was a really nice guy even if he did play for Central
but a fantastic career, not too many have won more premierships

oh, I wont mind if you have a quiet game this weekend :D
