U/17 First Semi 2008 Glenelg v North Adelaide @ TBA

Intriguing match coming up. Not sure which way it'll go. On their day, both these sides play a good brand of footy. Glenelg looked shaky (apparently) in their loss to Port yesterday whilst North absolutely smashed South in almost every facet of play at the Bay.
Winner faces the loser of Sturt/Port in the preliminary final whilst the loser ends their season.
Fixture details won't be available until tomorrow after the AFL has announced their final's fixture for week one and the SANFL make any necessary changes to the league fixture as a result. Probably looking at a 10:30am start next Saturday at Woodville Oval prior to the U/19 match between Woodville/West Torrens and Port Magpies at a guess.

North Adelaide's loaded team should be to good for Glenelg.
For the life of me I have no idea how winning an under 17 premiership with players who should be in a higher grade help the long term sucess of the club or the individuals.
Johnston and Armstrong should be the key to this game.

So we are not allowed to play our eligible U17's in the U17's now because one, two or three of them are destined for bigger and better futures???
As it is there are about 6 players in the ressies who could have dropped back as well so it is hardly loading up the team!

I stood Johnston in the first half of the north vs south 17s game last week, unstoppable...
with tapscott and armstrong delivering to him he should kick a bag and with the team they feilded on saturday should take out the g/f...

Sure you can...just after you've played the Bays. Cheers, I knew you'd understand.

Of course you are allowed to do it, other wise I doubt you would be doing it.
A bit like how clubs can load reserve teams if their league team is out of the final.
The fact that you can do it does not make it the right thing to do.
I thought junior grades were about developing players and by playing kids down who are clearly good enough to be playing higher grades just to increase the chances of winning the flag is not the spirit of the game.
The dissapointing thing is North would have a good team without these guys and it would have been a great acheivement for those lads to beat Port and Sturt.

So your team (which I assume is Port) has fielded the same players every week and has not had any go up to U19, resssies, league or college football etc etc etc. I also assume that no Port player has/will be dropped back a grade?

This is one of the most pointless threads i've ever read, if your players are available youd pick them, common sense says that!!!
BTW no one will be critical of Port when they fly their guns from the EP over, which I know they will.

Will Port drop any players back, well I have no idea or control on that.
They certainly wont be dropping back players of the calibre of Tapscott, Armstrong and Johnston. Mind you I dont think we have anyone as good as them to drop back.
It is also hard to see Port doing this as Port will still be playing under 19's come finals time so we dont have as much temtation to do it.
If Port were to keep players like Long in the 17's rather than playing him in the 19's I would be dissapointed.

having a few hawthorn scouts in the crowd may have made him push himself around a bit

Fancy players eligible for the Under 17s playing for the Under 17s against other players who are eligible for Under 17s.
WTF is the world coming to? Surely the SANFL must stamp out this blatant cheating, a disgrace!
Just realised it was going on in my son's school, Ive just taken my son out of the final game this week as he's a Year 3 and is playing in the Year2/3 side, Im not sure how I let this disgusting behaviour happen until this week but Ive seen the light.

But any truth in the rumour that North will NOT be fielding their best side in the league team this week, with an eye on junior success?

Nup, as it wont make any difference as far as qualification goes for the ressies.
With the seniors not in the finals, eligibility becomes an issue for the Reserves. Outside the obvious the following players can play in the finals : Stribling, Grose, Millar, Dodman and O'Keefe. Ricky Ebert and Todd Pfeiffer are not available due to their number of A Grade games.'
