GOWANS TWINS GOING AROUND AGAIN FOR DOGS IN 2009

Postby Big Phil » Thu Aug 28, 2008 10:01 pm

Some good news for you all Centrals fans out there tonight. After listening to the Thursday Night League Teams Show on 5RPH. Paul Plandis and Grant Coffee interviewed the injured Chris Gowans and put the hard question to him about he and his brothers plans are after season 2008 comes to an end.

Asking Chris for an insight into whether they will play on or head back home to Victoria next year Chris gave Coff some pretty good news. He said that every year since they've been here it gets said he and James will return home at seasons end. Chris mentioned that with their building business going great guns here in Adelaide, they have both actually begun building their own houses and that they do not intend going back to Victoria next year.

Jokingly, Chris said that as long as the club want them to play next year, they will don the red, white and blue in season 2009. He did say providing their bodies hold up and that Roy Laird wants them in the side, they want to play on again next year. He did elude to the fact that money has nothing to do with it and also joked that Kris Grant offers them less money each year but they play for the love of the club and their team mates.

GREAT NEWS FOR DOGGIES FANS, WELL DONE TO THE GOWANS BOYS...

The speed those 2 move on the building site, if they have just started building their own houses they are going to be in Adelaide for about 5 years, just to get finished.

But good news.

Possibly good news for opposition teams as well, might make it easier to beat the Dogs next year?

Must be hard on their bodies.

They have played in seasons spanning 27 weeks for 8 years straight so far.

Past their peak, but still can walk into any SANFL side.

A lot of imports don't hang around their clubs too long, so it's always great to see those recruits who take ownership of their club, and give plenty back to it.

Despite the fact it makes it harder to beat the Doggies (lol or get close to them in our case), I'm glad to see the lads going around again.

I'm glad that they're staying on.
Great for the club.
I must say I'd like to see them play less of a midfield role maybe, getting a bit slow now, and have them running around as goalsneaks in the forward lines. Nasty.

Totally agree Dogwatcher...

I think we can just use them for 5-10 minute spurts here and there on the ball when we need a bit of grunt in the middle. I think we need to keep the young guys coming through the midfield ranks, guys like Scott Dutschke, Louis Hadden, Brayden O'Hara, Leigh Westhoff (when fit), Ryan Williams (when not with the Power), Jamwes Moss and Lee Spurr are young and fleet of foot.

Apart from the obvious need for a key defender and a ruckman, I think we need to recruit a real quick, quality midfielder, maybe somelike Victorian State League Representative, Robbie Nahas from Port Melbourne. The Gowans would be great in their prime, playing off a half forward fank or forward pocket. I think that will be a likely scenario in 2009.

I read on a VFL forum somewhere that by June sometime, he had 20+ goals and was averaging about 21 possies a game...not sure he's a true midfield option, in light of what you're seeking for Centrals though BP...he seems to have the classification of "small forward"...a lot of Vico's reakon he might get drafted or rookie listed by an AFL club...so that might stuff your hopes.

Eddie Sansbury looks on the outer at the 'Roos. Perhaps he could fill the void. Especially if Cam Faulkner returns after working in the country.

Those stats are Donohue-esque.

Well is he contracted to Norwood for season 2009 topsy ???

If he doesn't get drafted into the AFL maybe the Dogs should try and recruit him ???

You said that last year, Dutchy.

Anyone who kicks 5 goals in a GF win as a 19 year old and then spends 5 years on an AFL list with a perennial finalist must be pretty good.
