One man side?

With apologies to Ben Colreavy, Sturt are a one man side and that man is clearly Jade Sheedy so it got me thinking about which one player is THE most valuable in each side. I would say that Nick Gill is probably that man for North but I haven't seen all the teams yet. Any thoughts this early on in the season?

Zippy, I don't mean to be disrespectful to Sturt, I was just thinking about which player is the most valuable and I think it's Jade Sheedy. There are obviously some very good players in the side but he is a stand out performer.

Clayton could do his knee in round 5 and he'd still have the magarey tied up.

Yep, agree.
There is no way they can take the 2005 medal off him now.

If anything I'd think Squire would be more essential, as proved on Saturday.

He must be awfully lonely in the changerooms before the game

I wouldn't say Sturt are a 1-man band. Sheedy, Whiteman, Squire, Jarjoura, Wicks, & Pearce (although you won't see him again). They're the usual names that get thrown up when I talk to Sturt mates, would this be a reasonable assessment?

The jury is out on Jarjoura. Jarjury?
No team is a one man band. Every team has some that contribute more than others, end of story.

What about Weatherald, Feast, Chambers and Nelson, they are all pretty good contributors.

You should be having a crack at Gilly, not me!

zip and AH, those players are extremely important to the sturt team...
but the names i want other supporters talking about are our talls, the Coads, Bowens, McLeays, Davies etc...
We desperately needed to add quality talls last off season which we did not do.
A player of the quality of Gill, Alleway, Baird even deJong etc would have been good to have.
fwiw, i think its still squiz as our most important player.

Yeah Sturt are a one man side because they lost to Norwood
Maybe the Legs are a bit better than you thought Gilly, even our come from behind win against Glenelg is looking a little better given their excellent performance against the Mutants.

REB

Feast has been a fantastic player, but he's past it and has to resort to late hits like that in the final quarter on Saturday where he was lucky not to have his number taken ... Coad is very impressive and Ben Nelson is still a great player at this level ... I wasn't impressed with Jarjoura last year, and even though (to my mind) a poor matchup on Saturday helped him, there's no doubting the bloke has ability, he looked very dangerous on Saturday, as did DeLuca and Wicks!
I'd suggest Sturts best 3, not in any order are without doubt (to my mind at least) Sheedy, Squire and Colreavy.
I guess the main worries for Sturt would be that Jarjoura and Chambers kicked 10 between them, and still were beaten at home by a team that many don't rate ... They also had a lot less of the ball (about 100 possies difference) and made some pretty regular errors with disposal, and if not for wasted opportunities near the Norwood goalfront, would have gone done by a greater amount.
Tim Weatherald is almost in the Feast mould too, has been a wonderful player for the Blues but doesn't appear to hurt the opposition as he once did.
Disclaimer: Sturt fans, this is not a post intended to bag your lot, you have been up for about 10 years which is a credit to the club, but as we have been/are at Norwood, there comes a time for all (perhaps with the exception of Centrals) when you need to take a year or two to redevelop, and I think thats about where Sturt are at, at the moment ..
