Glenelg has grabbed a double chance in the final season of the SANFL's Under 17 competition. The Tigers smashed Woodville/West Torrens today by 51 points at the Bay, whilst North slipped from third to fourth in the final round after going down to Port in a thriller by three points at Alberton today.

Port and Glenelg will now square off next Saturday afternoon at Norwood Oval, most likely a 10:00am start.

The winner will play Sturt in the second semi final, with that winner to progress to the grand final.

The loser will play the winner of North/South in the first semi final.

U/17 Final Five Ladder Placings
1 Sturt (20 games) 38 pts
2 Port (20) 30 pts
3 Glenelg (20) 23 pts
4 North (20) 22 pts
5 South (20) 22 pts

Port beat Sturt last week and North today - if young Hoody plays for Port they will go all the way to the flag - a gun that lad...

Great update Scott.

Hope it's an even earlier start than 10am, which would allow me and many others to catch the 17's match, and then scoot across to Woodville to see the Norwood vs. Eagles clash...

Interesting stats, Spelly, but very irrelevant for an under 17 comp, wouldn't you think? After all, it's not as if any of the current day U17 players would likely to have been involved in more than 5 head to head games.

In that case, why quote any overall or finals head-to-head stats for any comp? Since often over 99% of the previous games haven't involved the current players...

Boo Maxyoz for upsetting our stats guru! Surely he is allowed to show off the latest section of his ever-expanding SANFL records?

Good point Ecky, but wouldn't it be a lot more relevant if the stats gurus put up the last 5 games Head to Head also, so we can get a more discernable game trend as well?

By this theory, Glenelg have a 36% chance of winning as it is a game of footy, a 36% chance of winning because it is a final and no chance of winning because it is a Qualifying Final (the last one being 7 years before the oldest elegible player was born).

This year in the 2 games played, it's been 1 win each, including a 199 point turnaround by the Bays from one week to the next. And last year Port won 3 games to Glenelgs none, so you can't really take much out of that either.

So, in essence, Glenelg to win by 14 points.

We would really need to know what the teams are before making any predictions, since very few players played in both those games earlier this season (Glenelg made 13 changes). Will the College players be available?

College football finished last weekend so they will be back this week.

Ok I didn't realise I had to explain why but basically Lycett and Solly will be the difference between the teams assumeing neither club decides to stack there side with kids who have been playing 19's.

Port going to get first look at the ball even though the Glenelg ruckman has a real future as well.

I don't think either side will stack their teams with U19's kids as the Bays would want to beat Port this week to secure the Under 19's Double Chance and Port would want to win to remain on top of the ladder.
