Gill is a champion and the main reason North got back into the game today. The best all round marking/chasing/tackling and exciting fwd in the SANFL IMHO. 2 of his marks today were almost beyond belief and the types of marks only Gilly can take. If it was not for Gilly and Cox in the first half we would have been gone.

Perhaps one for the captions?

South trainer:
"Who was the dickhead that built this pole in front of the scoreboard?"

Or perhaps:

"Surely we can't lose from here?"

It was starting to get a bit depressing at that stage of the game, who would have thought North would kick the next 5 goals, and that happened in the time it took me to buy a steak sanga + 2 snags for the kids.

Quite possibly the dumbest thing ever done- puting the scoreboard behind this light pole (or putting the light pole in front of the scoreboard). Memo to South: move your scoreboard!

Given the complaints South received at the first game in 1995 at the best home ground in the SANFL you would have thought that 1, the scoreboard would have been moved or 2, the lightpole would have been moved......

Maybe if they got another grant from the state govt....

So far all I've heard is how North won after being six goals down and should have belted us. I expected/hoped to read some North supporters giving South a little credit for their performance against a genuine Premiership contender that is well ahead in terms of pre-season preparation. Do South have something to work with to sneak into 5th? Are North actually over rated considering they could have easily lost to lowly South. Which is it.....

Yeah but WCP, South unveiled a Funky New Logo (tm) which should have negated any advantage that the Roosters would have otherwise had...

Well ahead in terms of pre-season preparation? Well isn't that the South Adelaide coaching staffs fault for not having them prepared properly?

South definetly have the talent to work with WCP. If they can maintain a consistent level of performance throughout the season they could make the 5 but history shows that South just don't deliver in this area. This might be the year who knows.

North are ahead of most clubs due to the NT game. The balls would have come out earlier etc and that was also our first game of the year after the bye last week. While I was dissapointed to hear the score going in the wrong direction for us after half time I also felt we must have shown a bit and given them a scare. So far it's just been the standard 80/20 crowd bias, terrible facilities etc.......

After our horror performance at Arctic Park last season I'd be happy if they justremoved the coreboard altogether! :?

Great pic of Gill, that blokes a human highlight reel ... FWIW I reckon young Power lad Matty Thomas took a definite mark of the year contender near the end of the Ressies game on Sat also ..

lmao, that's hillarious, you expected/hoped North supporters to praise the side that lost when no South supporters have praised the team that won?

wcp - South look like they may well improve but IMO your list looks weaker on paper than last year so they are still very much unknown and looking at your ressies not a lot of depth their either. It may well turn out to be a good thing losing the disruptive players you had last year and replacing some with youth etc but a lot of experience went with them and I'm not sure that Pyman is altogether blameless for your last 2 years of under achieving given your strong lists in those seasons.

When South can become consistent and really push for a finals berth then maybe more constructive praise will come but you coughed up a 6 goal lead in 10 minutes of footy in the first quarer, then 4 goal lead in the second quarter and should have lost by a lot more except for North's terrible conversion rate. Our 3 key forwards took 25 marks between them yet managed to kick 9-12 between them plus 3 that didn't register a score that they should have got. If we had kicked just 6 more goals and won by 54 points would Pyman and co and all you supporters be pleased then with your first hit out? That's how close it was to be a belting at the end of the day.

Cheers for the honest assessment, living over here obviously I can't get to many matches and I wanted an opposition perspective. I am well aware that we are trying youngsters and the side has lost a lot of experience, if only we had lost committed players as well who knows what could have happened last year!! The fact this young side was able to get those leads on one of the better clubs still offers encouragement, this side can only get better the more they play together.

A good thing about South's play was their style of footy, they attempted to beat us at our own game, they ran hard, early skills were good (when we applied zero pressure though), and they simply could not miss, while we missed some shockers. I thought our early misses in the second term would hurt us as South went down the other end and kicked goals.
When we finally started to tackle and go in hard for the ball South started to make errors, the worrying thing for us was 'why didn't we do that from the beginning?'

As drebin said, if we had kicked straight it would have been a very healthy winning margin which was amazing considering I thought we had no chance of coming back after the early onslaught.

Thanks to Drebin who pointed out to me Nick Heath's doctoring of my photo on Nick Gill's blog at http://www.nafc.com.au. Quite funny!
