SANFL Attendances up 14%

It is interesting to see that South are continuing to increase their home match attendes despite not having played competitivley in many games this season. I am convinced that in Souths case that the car parking around the ground is one of the major factors that is bringing that attendance figure up as it opens up footy to many people who through disability find it hard to be there otherwise. If we can put the attendance up whilst in losing form, it would be interesting to see how we would go if we did become one of the dominant sides in the competition as a few termites then come out of the woodwork!

From "Barries Corner" NAFC Website

2008 SANFL Match Attendances
Have just received a copy of the SANFL match attendance figures for this season so far. Marvellous what an effect / impact a team's success / non-success has on home ground attendances.

Glenelg for instance has increased its match day attendances this season by 85.3 % from 5728 average this year, as against 3091 last season}. Norwood has increased by 21.8 % and South Adelaide has increased its home match crowds by 18.2 % on last season.

Conversely, at the bottom of the list is our Club with a drop in attendance at Prospect Oval from last year of 14% {average attendance last season was 2768, this season is 2380}.

I know there are other various contributing factors to this situation, but it sure helps attendances if your side is winning....doesn't it ???

The overall picture is an average increase in SANFL attendances this year of 14 %.

Oh bugger...I agree with him

Could be a sign of the 'credit crunch' carp....not as expensive as the AwFuL for a day out but you still get your footy fix :? If it is then I reckon now's the time for clubs to try and capitalize on it with offers, deals and membership drives to keep them turning up.

I don't think the improvements in Norwood's home crowd figures have much to do with improved performance, let's face it we've only shown patches of better footy in the last 6 or 8 weeks and have only recently had our first win over a top 3 side.

I think getting Sturt, Port and Glenelg early in the year under lights and in good conditions is clearly the main reason ... The game V the Bays this year had about double the attendance the same fixture has drawn in the past 5 years (greater than double in some cases).

The point is, people take the pi55 about bandwagons etc, but when all is said and done if Norwoods figures as CP has alluded to have been boosted by travelling Sturt/Glenelg/Port fans then that's great for Norwood, as I'm sure the revenue from catering etc would have taken a nice leap.

The more people that get into the great game that is SANFL the better IMO.

If they have returned then excellent, hopefully they like the product and will come next year. All leads to increased memberships for clubs, higher revenue streams through game day functions, catering etc, and a better product that we all love....

Well said Jabber, have always thought we should be happy about punters returning rather than taking a swipe at them.

Still hope we have some of our own in the closet, as it was very noticable with the Sturt and Glenelg games that the travelling fans had the (far) greater support ... If we can get a few thousand to return, it's the difference between a 7k crowd and what you guys pulled at the Bay earlier in the year, which was awesome for footy in this state.

It's a fundamental aspect of footy...teams that aren't doing so well lay into those that are, and claim they have bandwaggoners...

Bays fans have been laying into Sturt fans for years about this...

Both CP and SJABC are spot on...the more the merrier for the health and vitality of this great competition we all love.

Agreed SJABC

The more on the bandwagoon the better as far as I'm concerned. It is great seeing all the new and returning faces at the Bay. The money we made following the Sturt game was phenominal from what I have been told - a big thanks to the Sturt bandwagonners too. The fact that we are travelling as well, to Unley (4000 in the wet in April), Elizabeth and Norwood in particular is fantastic as it puts money into those clubs too.

What warms the cockles of this Bays fans heart is the number of kids running around at our home games wearing Bays guernseys. We have had to have more made up this year as we were sold out of kids guernseys before the Sturt game. You could barely move in the rooms on Sunday with the kids running around getting autographs, having photos taken with players and talking to the boys.

They are the future fans of our club who will hopefully ensure their kids are Bays fans long after I'm gone.

Bandwagonners - we love 'em!!!
