New Medal for SANFL u/18s

I presume that with the end of the u/17s and u/19s there will be a new medal struck for the u/18s comp (replacing the McCallum and Tomkins Medals).
Who might be in line to ascribe their name to it? (I'm assuming it will be an SANFL identity and not a "recent" AFL identity).
Barrie Robran
Russell Ebert
Malcolm Blight (although the Crows B&F gets a Malcolm Blight medal)
Bill Wedding (although McIntosh could be an option for telling the VFL/AFL to get nicked for so long and being as loyal as he was to the SANFL comp)
Peter Darley
Paul Bagshaw
Lindsay Head
Wilbur Wilson
Peter Carey
Doug Thomas
out of left field - Peter Motley?
What criteria should be considered?

Good question. Perhaps (a little left-field) this is the opportunity to honour Max Basheer's contribution to the SANFL.

Why shoukd the McCallum and Tomkins medal be lost just because their will not be a U/17's and U/19's comp in 2009 and beyond ???
Just my opinion but I don't see why these 2 medals should be replaced. My suggestion would be to keep the McCallum medal for the revised Under 16's comp and the Tomkins medal can reamin for the Under 18's comp.
It would be nice to at least keep something from these 2 competitions and I think appropriately it should be the medals, but as I say, just IMHO

Perhaps simply call it the MCallum/Tomkins medal.
If they want to go with something new, it should be named the Basheer medal as Max Basheer has provided so much to a comp such as the SANFL to provide an opportunity for our young rising stars to further their football, and he should be honoured as such.

How about naming it after me.

Basheer for me.
And hopefully someone from Genelg wins it in the first year in his honour!

I'd be fine with the medal being made in honour of Max Basheer...
I think it is unfair to other former SANFL legends if the medal is named after players such as Barrie Robran or Russell Ebert.
Basheer is the standout IMO.

Cennal Disticts would be just as appropriate!

Retain both as suggested above by Big Phil, or if that isn't practicable combine the name as Demon68 suggested.

Name it the Ted Whitten medal, the SANFL is so keen to sell their soul to become the AFLSA, that they might just as well keep on going and finish the job to complete the dismantling of the SANFL.

Sturt can become Carlton West. Without the salary cap rorting of course.
With all the howling about the creation of an U18's comp, I didn't realise there was a 16's in the mix as well. Then Big Phil's suggestion is the obvious solution.

If the under 16's is a shortened competition in a similar vein to the current under 15s competition then retaining the existing name of the 17's medal is the same as killing the award altogether.
I would be surprised if a new medal wasn't struck.

I believe there is already a Basheer medal.
The 5aa award to the best player from their commentators points in the 2 SA AFL teams each week at the end of the year is Bthe basheer medal (which 5aa set up)
Happy to be corrected if i've got this wrong

The Kevin Sheehan Medal
exactly what I was going to post. After all if it wasn't for him the competition wouldn't exist.
the last thing I would want to win is the basheer medal. Lawyers can go to hell now, especially those involved in football administration.

How about the Robert Walls medal?
