Good news for Matthew Westhoff...
He has been selected to make his AFL debut for the Power tomorrow night against Collingwood at AAMI Stadium.
Despite not having a great game against North last week, he showed the week before kicking 5 against Glenelg that he is a future talent and will join his brother Justin in the teal, black and white on the big stage.
Good luck to Matthew, I very much look forward to watching his debut with interest. Hope he plays well, but not too well, I'd prefer him to be in the Doggies side leading into finals but that is just my selfish opinion...

Port obviously want to have a look at him but I didn't think his form was up to AFL standards, but good luck to him...
Hey Phil, don't forget the silver in the Port colours too....

Wasn't the only Centrals player who was ordinary mate...
Must admit I was a tad suprised to hear he was selected, considering he only had 4 possesions on the weekend. Peter Rhode mentioned on 5AA last night that they were more impressed with his 5 goal effort the week before against the, at the time top of the table, Tigers.
Good luck Matty, hope you have a good one mate...

Kicking 5 on a great full back in Paul Sherwood is pretty impressive to me mt79...
I spoke with Paul himslef the next day and he said he was impressed by the young lad...
I guess like you say, the important people have spotted his talent and want to give him a go on the big stage. In saying that though, I wouldn't think he would be getting his opportunity if it wasn't for the fact Chocco is blooding kids due to the Power's shocking year.

Did a couple of good things in a pretty average side last night...
Ended up with 1 goal 2 I think, from probably half a dozen posessions. It was mentioned on the Channel 7 call last night, but I thought his brother Justin was a bit too Matthew concious and probably went to him too often when it wasn't always the best option.
Reckon he will probably get another chance next week, depends on Motlop though I guess...

Sure the game also. Thought Matty Westhoff could hold his head high...he was willing to chase and harrass the opposition defenders, and had a bit of toe about him, which I think surprised his opponents a few time...
I would expect Choco to have a quiet word in the ear of Justin Westhoff during the week, but to be honest, I think the times Justin looked for Matty was OK, but let himself down with poor disposal...Matty appeared to be pretty good at finding space and leading his opponent out to the footy...
Be a shame if the Power dropped him for next week's game...you'd hope they just leave him in for the rest of the year...

Lets hope the Power don't make the same mistake with this Westhoff.
Get him in the gym & build him up for F@#K sake, both of these boys are too fragile for AFL footy.
I thought they would of learnt when playing the 1st Westhoff & seeing how fragile he was.

It was such a mistake and he was so fragile that he kicked over 30 goals in his debut season? I think you're on the wrong track there.
If we should wait till either bulk up before playing them then we'll be waiting a bloody long time. Whilst Matthew does need work in the gym, neither are gonna end up looking like Neitz/Tredrea/Brown. They dont have the body for it.

I don't expect him to look like Neitz/Tredrae/or Brown in the first year but atleast look like ( show ) your puting some muscle on.
You can't honestly say the bloke has put some muscle on since day one? He's a "RAKE" & so is his brother.
For god sake this is AFL not Amateur League.
The club is kidding itself if it thinks its going to kick a winning score with those sort of targets up front.

Trust me guys, I saw Matthew in an Under 19's game early last year for Centrals and he has put plenty on since then. Of course it is a progressive thing and let's not hide away from the fact that Matthew probably made his AFL debut 12 months earlier than expected. It is only due to the fact that the Power have had a shocking year and have blooded youngsters to see what they are made of...
He'll be right for next year, just hope he doesn't have the 2nd year blues like brother Justin has had...

Justin has put on muscle. I hope he doesnt bulk up too much more though...he'll risk losing his agility and injury. His frame doesnt isnt built the same as your bigger key forwards. Matthew does need a lot of work...just to get to Justin level though.
Theres a number of players like that though, hes not alone. Tony Notte debuted today and hes the same...he was a 1st round draft pick. Ben Reid was another. Cameron Wood. Lockwood was another. Thurstans has been in the system 10 years and hasnt looked much different from when he debuted in 03. Ben Hart was another. Then the smalls. People have said 'they'll get murdered out there' about Davey, Pearce, Campbell, Krakouer...doesnt happen. Muscle can be overrated.
I also disagree about Justin having second year blues. Hes had 1 or 2 poor games, but given the different role, given hes been largely outside 50 for most of the games and given how completely shithouse Ports midfield and delivery has been this year...hes done as well as one could expect. Just for example, Crows supporters have been reaching for tissues all year over Tippett and have regularly laughed at Westhoff, yet Westhoff has averaged 70% more disposals, more than double the marks, more goals, triple the inside 50s etc. Westhoff hasnt been given anywhere near the credit he deserves this year.

Justin has lost weight this season IMO. As for Matthew, I wish I was gifted a game like that.
