Self-confessed,i don't really take much notice of the reserves, so is there players at yours, or any other club, that you think should be playing in the senior team?

MacDonald, Bratton, Avery, Thring, Hurley, then you could make a case for Fitzgerald, Cahill, Childs, Tomlinson, Kay, Weir, Scott-Tompson.

cutter, that's 12 players! having said that, do you think if they went to another club around the same ladder position or lower, would they be straight up League players?

Alwyn, DeJongh and Schultz would all stake reasonable claims at Norwood from what I've seen, which granted this year hasn't been a great deal.

That's the thing you have to ask though...

Who do these players replace in the league side ? Of course you have suspensions, injuries, AFL players and form slumps which dictate or determine the opportunities "fringe players" do get at league level but I'm sure very club has a number of players who they feel would be, or should be playing league but are currently in the reserves side.

From Centrals, I would say currently that guys like Lee Spurr, Luke Barmby, Ash Duncan, Kieran McShane, Sean Brading, Earl Shaw, Kane Officer, Jeremy Aufderhiede, James Moss, Nick White, Daniel Boyle, Ryan Porter.

Some of these players have played league this year or in seasons gone by and others are up and coming youngsters that, IMO, would go alright at league level should they be given the opportunity. And that's what it is all about, opportunity and depth. Some clubs have players leave because they feel they are being deprived of higher honours and others just run out of pateince, or nowadays, the call of big country and ametuer money is too good to refuse. Then we see more recently succesful clubs like Centrals, Eagles, Sturt and now Glenelg coming through, have more sustained success because they simply have more depth within the club.

If I had to single out a few blokes playing reserves at other clubs that I wouldn't mind playing league for Centrals (if they could work their way into the side) would be blokes like. Bear in mind this is just my opinion anfd thoughts only so other people may or may not agree with me...

South - Dale Ellis
North - Charlie McAdam, Wade Thompson
Glenelg - Matthew Graham, Lachlan McGregor, Michael Liebelt
Port - Jordan Erskine, Ryan McInerney
Norwood - Rob DeJongh, Ziggie Alwan
Sturt - Michael Bratton, Jeremy Johncock, Nicholas Smith, George Thring
Eagles - Craig Gogoll, Ben Shwarze, Jarrad Wright
West - Ric Giles, Murray Hamblin

I have seen a fair bit of reserves footy this year so I've based my judgement on seeing them first hand and having a good idea as to who kicks goals, gets in the better players and has somewhat of a reputation about them. Out of all of them, if I could only pick one bloke, I would take Ben Shwarze. Reckon his versatility and marking capabilities could be more than handy in the Doggies line up right now.

I for one would be super happy if this was CDFC's league team next year.

Big Phil for Kris Grant and Roy Laird's job please! etc etc

Stop being a pain in the arse Topsy, FFS

At no stage did I say I'd want ALL those players playing league next year, I individually highlighted specific players from each club just to show who I rated. At no stage did the topic read "pick a team made up from fringe players at other clubs that will be your while team for season 2009"... :?

We will hopefully have only a couple of retired seasoned veterans to replace next season, not a whole bloody team like you think I'm insinuating...

Oh, and by the way, give it up already with that stupid bloody signature of yours, it's done it's dash now and wasn't even funny to begin with

The question was simply who, playing in the ressies, should be playing in the seniors. I took it as a hypothetical question, so I'll explain myself FWIW.
MacDonald and Bratton both played alot of league last year and played very well, can't make it into the league side this year.
Avery, Thring and Fitzgerald have done well in the league this year when they've had the chance.
Hurley has been troubled by injury but has proven he's up to it, also finding it hard to break into the A's.
Cahill, Childs, Tomlinson and Weir have also had senior games last year and this year and have not been disgraced, Cahill has been very good up forward.
To a lesser extent you can include Kay and Scott-Tompson.
I'm not looking through rose coloured glasses :? And in the end it's about opinion but you can't deny the cold facts of Sturt's incredible depth this year across all grades, A's- 1st 26pts. Res- 1st 28pts. U19- 4th 20 pts. U17- 1st 36pts and undefeated. Our injuries have been pretty low this year, god willing, and when there has been changes due to injury/AFL there's pretty well been a seamless change of players. Ben Eckermann is a classic example of this.
I reckon most of the players I've mentioned would get a game with other clubs and hold their own.
