NOT ANOTHER FOOTY RUMOUR this time its Centrals

B4 I make this post
I have the upmost respect for the CD football club
Just something I heard.

There is a coup to displace coach Roy Laird ?
Seems there are people at the club who are irate that Louis Hadden was dropped for the ST game.
Chris Gowans was the replacement.
One unimpressed person on talkback radio on Saturday called Phil made some disparaging comments.
He has had a go at Laird and co for selecting unfit and or underperforming premiership player or players instead of a yougSTAR like Hadden.

Question is should CD play Hadden who apparently has played pretty well
OR
Select a proven champ in Chris Gowans and get him fit for finals
?

As for the coup surely not ...

Oh dear, one "wrong" move and you get a knee jerk reaction from some supporters? I'd expect this to be a very small amount, because I'd have thought basically every Central fan wouldn't be that harsh on a man who has coached 4 premierships in 5 years.

surely it couldn't be true, we've heard about the caller (on another thread) but that is ridiculous & ffs they are sitting 3rd & that is where 6 other teams would like to be & DON'T GIVE THEM ANY AMMO like this especially this week

I don't think a club like Centrals will give much credence to a half crazed talk back caller...

Far too professional for that.

Who said he's a Central supporter anyway?

That's what mal said. But, I wouldn't call that a Central supporter in all honesty, rather a Central detractor.

I would hardly think one irate caller and a handful of drunken supporters would represent a coup. I've heard this idiot spouting off on the radio, he's a loser.

Over the years I've learned one thing, it's that no matter what you do in this life you will never please everyone. No matter how many flags Laird brings to that club he will always have his detractors. That's life, and I'm sure Laird would appreciate that.

My advice to that borish caller is to suck it up and either accept the club's choice of coach, or find another club. Central was around long before you came along, and will be around long after you leave.

perhaps the caller is a friend or relative of hadden or other 2's players that feel that they should be in the team which is ludicrous as lets face it every other club would like to have centrals record over the last 8 years or narrow it down to every other coach in the competition would love to have roy lairds record as their own

One ill informed talkback caller does not constitute a "coup", a "rumour" or even the need for a thread.

So MAL has been 100% accurate on every single rumor he has ever started up has he Dutchy ???

One would think that based on record alone, Roy Laird would be the safest coach in the league and no amount of innuendo, uneducated talkback caller or some bloody "coup" would have enough credence to off load a 4 time premiership coach. Unless he left to take up an AFL assistant role, I think Roy Laird would have the full Backing and support from Kris Grant and the Board of Directors 110% of the way to be the League coach of our great club for as long as he wants the position.

Even if MAL has a history of being close to mark on previous calls, this one will prove to be the furthest from the truth...

That's what I thought it as, too. But whatever posse is behind this so called "coup" they will get nowhere.

I don't need a stupid, pointless "rumor" like that to prompt me to change my avatar...

Seeing as though you are a numbers man when it comes to the old avatar, I might try a few digits myself...

642

What significance you might ask ???

6 - The number of Premierships we have won of course, all of which Roy Laird had some involvement in...

4 - The number of League Premierships Roy Laird has coached at Central Districts

2 - The number of Reserves Premierships (back to back) Roy Laird coached which led to his appointment as league coach

Not a bad number 642, I like it I reckon. Based on that bloody record, and his actual coaching abiulity, if Roy Laird isn't in charge at Centrals for a long time to come, then there is something seriosuly wrong...

I strongly doubt there's any attempt to displace Roy Laird. For starters, is there anyone better to replace him with?

As the 5RPH commentary team said after 'Peter's' comments - it's the club that decides who's coach, not the supporters. Imagine if the club had listened to the supporters that wanted Peter Jonas sacked at the end of the 1999 season - if they'd listened and replaced Jonas, it's quite possible Centrals would not have been as dominant this decade as they have been.
