A pretty average game, the 37 point final margin probably flattered the Eagles. Westies should have been up by more at quarter time, although the Eagles did get their fair share of predictable ball into the direction of Passador and 3 Westies players inside 50 in that 1st quarter. I guess the Eagles just did enough to get the win and despite looking likely to win for momst of the 2nd half, only put the game away about 10 minutes into the last quarter.

But for the positives... and besides the win, Staples worked well with Grocke as a leading half forward and we looked much better when McGregor was down with Passador in the forward line so we had another option up there. Hall was very opportunistic and ended with 4 goals. Hier played well and marshalled the defence with plenty of run from Petrenko and Stewart.

Best player was Jarrad fairly easily. He had a solid 4 quarters and got plenty of the footy. As I said earlier, the rest did enough to get a win against average opposition.

We'll need to pull something out of the hat to beat Sturt next week, but I'd say most supporters will just be looking for an honest competitive effort for 4 quarters, as was the case today.

A very ordinary game by everyone, that includes both teams and the umpires .
It was fair to say that the Eagles plan A failed again .Why when you have the ball and are going forward do you ALWAYSKICK THE BALL TO PASSADOR who always had 2 to 3 players to beat. Well in the first half anyway .
Possitives from the game Broadbent Hall Corbett and Daniel all showed something.
Rimington adds something to the team but was reported again not sure what for .He ran in and tackleda player to say he was upset when he left the ground was an understatement .
Mackenzie again back to some of his best form Treeby and Powell played well again .
Redden out injured pre game ? Robberts brought in .
Grocke appeared injured as did Fiacchi .
In the two's the other Fiacchi and Symons injured themselves again.
Good young players for next year in the two Lane,Sumner,Hill,Almond.

Was great to watch a win today but the side will need to be better next week !!

I think both sets of supporters would be in their right mind to question the ability of the umpiring today. In fact, perhaps the hot topic to take out of the match is "was the umpiring worse than the players?". I thought a big positive in the match was Christopher Hall, kicking 4 goals, he has a very good nouse in the crumbing aspect of a forward. I'd put McKenzie at BOG though, was always getting free and running around players, I can't even recall him burning the ball, which almost everyone on the park did today. He acheved in the space of 30 seconds after half time: clearance, kick, inside 50, (followed up the ball to the contest) crumb, snap, goal. Passador kicked 4 and McGregor kicked 3.

Having said that, we still need to lift 100% to get anywhere near Sturt next week.

Moran out prior to game.

West Adelaide down to one player on the bench by half time and just ran out of gas in second half last quarter -- at that time 2 goal 3 points down.

Good luck to Eagles for winning but honestly felt margin flattered their performance -- felt there was about 3 goals difference.

A win is a win but felt that the Eagles were nowhere near the team we played earlier in the year.

I agree with you, spelly, in that McKenzie was clearly best for the Eagles. Micky, you must have been watching a different game to me if you thought Treeby had a good game - I thought he was absolutely destroyed by Piasente.

West lost Moran before the game, Fielke in the first 5 minutes, Anderson very early in the second quarter and Stanley in the first few minutes of the 3rd quarter. A much better effort and the margin blew out in the last half of the last quarter.

The umpiring was perplexing all day.

Best players for Eagles (IMO) McKenzie, Fiacchi, Petrenko.

West: Piasente, Cupido, Rowe.

That's interesting, cd. I prefer the players' assessment, but both rate McGregor higher than most observers.

I guess it is often the role set for players that get the awards from the match committee rather than what we see as spectators but Players MVP I reckon is always a good guide.

result for us today was 3 out of 4 with Westies taking the money in the U 17s.

Yes, cd, that's very true. If McGregor had Willits, that makes sense.

Agree with you Red and Black
McGregor on Whillits for 3 quarters then up forward in last and kicked 3 goals - so a pretty fair effort for the day.

Wouldnt be a surprise Holden given Port have said they want to see how their youngsters perform.

He may have been referring to giving him a go this upcoming week which is round 18 and the last chance for rookie players to be upgraded and played in the AFL.

Chocko said they only have till the end of the week, then after that they can not promote rookies any more this year

McGregor was the eagles best IMO. He killed Willits for 3 quarters then was one of a few players that has got away from Ryan Ferguson in the last when he slotted 3. I though Piasente was the Bloods best doing a good job shutting down Leigh Treeby. I was suprised that Paul Stewart got BOG at the eagles presentations. It isn't that hard getting the footy without an opponent  . Mckenzie was able to find space all day and was very good. Chris Hall showed some positive signs as a small forward. The player i like most from the eagles is young henley product Broadbent, he oozes class and seems to be very versatile and deceptively tall. IMO he will go in the top 30 in the draft.
