Very good win to the Magpies there. Was a strange game. Port dominated the score board after 1/4 time but South never looked far away from turning it around until the last quarter.

South broke out to a very handy quarter time lead playing against the wind. I certainly thought we'd be quite a fair bit down at half time and after South kicked the first goal of the 2nd quarter I thought we looked in trouble. Port worked bloody hard to get back into the game, against the wind and some truly disgusting umpiring. Elstone was the difference in the 2nd quarter, breaking away to kick two strong goals and Hargraves put the Pies in front with his only goal (and basically only kick).

South kicked the first goal of the third but after that it was all Magpies, kicking 9 goals to 2 for the rest of the game. Clayton kicked his first, Clive goaled from a mark, DePasquale kicked a great goal on a tight angle, as did Mark Clayton and Johncock kicked a huge goal from 60-65 out.

Just as the 3/4 time siren rang, the breeze, which had died down, turned into a gale and I thought great...South get a 10 goal wind for the last quarter....then the heavens opened and it bucketed down for 10 minutes, killing the wind and almost any hope of a South comeback.

They had the first attack, but Jeremy Clayton was the difference. Kicked 2.2 and dished off another in the first 5 minutes of the quarter and the result was over.

Jezza was fantastic, both in the middle and up forward. He could have kicked 6 goals in that last quarter. Elstone, DePasquale and Murray sheer hard work and attack got the Maggies back in the game. The defence held up pretty strong and the middle worked harder and got the ball forward more often. It was good to see us kick 15 goals with minimal input from Hargraves and Waterhouse.

South had few players that played consistent throughout the whole game. Iljecson was fantastic. Lade presented well up forward. Rolfe was a livewire especially early, Sandery had his moments and parry rucked well.

Saunders left the ground after one of the biggest collisions ive seen in years, I think it was with Torney. Absolutely huge collision but Saunders knocked the ball on to advantage before the contest.

Prendergast went off late in the game with what looked like either a dislocated shoulder or elbow after a very sloppy attempt at a tackle. In what was a miracle recovery, he went from looking like he was dead on the ground, stretcher called, somehow got to his feet, almost fainted, then ran off the ground abusing the crowd. Strange.

Keeps the Pies in touch with the 5 which is nice.

Didnt see any of the reserves but they apparently won by over 100 points, so hopefully he got amongst the goals.

Burgoyne was shit. Utter shit. His performance was the equivalent of a 2 year old throwing a tantrum in a shopping centre.

Saunders collided with Boyd and it was gutsy from both players, both gave full commitment to the contest, both arrived at the same time, neither moving off the line or lifting their eyes, I dont think Saunders knocked the ball to advantage, it (the ball) just got out of the way any way it could, it was one of the biggest crunches I have seen since Rocky Roberts(Richmond) got head/shirt fronted by Gary Sidebottom at Norwood Oval many, many years ago when they had ANFL night competition.

Saunders finished up with a very sore sternum and was shortly after coughing up blood, could even have been cracked, I hope that he is not seriously hurt, Boyd was shoulder sore after the match,

I suppose we all see things differently, depending who you follow, what I saw Prendergast do was be involved in a marking contest, with 3 others, he came in from one side , did it all arkwardly, spoilt everyone in the contest, came down heavily on his shoulder, finishing up spread eagled on the ground, not being able to move with the pain of it, the stretcher was called as all trainers are instructed to do with serious injuries, he got up, tried to wobble about, he was able to 'pop' it back in and walked off towards the bench with the trainers, although he did start to head towards the Port bench, and if you Port morons didnt abuse him as he was leaving the ground, then maybe he wouldn't have given you dirty looks as he went to the bench.

Yeah ive been trying to think but I cant remember a big a collision as that in a long time. Great commitment by both.

Wasnt a marking contest. It was a tackle on Thurgood where he went in sloppy and tackled him around the neck, giving away a free kick and giving himself an injury.

Boyd and Saunders bump was what football is all about.

A stoppage occured almost imediately afterwards. from the stopage the ball went to Boyd and he was gang tackled and he stood up and took it like a man even though he was obvioulsy in pain from the previous bump.

Souths kids were very good in the first quarter and if they can stay focused South have a future.

Boyd likely to be the best SANFL player in 5 years time (unless Gold Coast or Western Sydney take a punt on him.)

Last big bump I saw was Between Caolan Buckley and Levi Greenwood where Levi broke his Collarbone.

The saunders /boyd clash was straight out of the 1960's. It was right in front of "the carport", and the players were perhaps 15 m apart, the ball equidistant between them with both players running hard straight at the footy. The gasp from the crowd was audible as they could sense the imminent collision. There was a fearful crack as they collided and both players should be commended for their courage and commitment. Saunders looked in trouble with a shoulder almost immediately and Boyd was obviously very sore but played on.
Pretty disappointing from South after quarter time, just didnt have the work rate of last week and sorely missed the hardness of Thewlis and Baird in defence. South had 10 players today who have played less than 20 games , with 2 players making their debuts. Boyd, despite his diminutive stature is going to be a very good player if South are able to hang onto him. Rolfe,Redigolo, Crabb,Carroll and Perry are also exciting youngsters who could have bright futures ahead of them.

That is a fair call, Glenelg were poorly prepared for the South Match last week...but South Were very good last week and kicked 17 goals...i wanted to see them do it again!
