SPEAKING OUT: Former Panthers coach John Cahill blames South management for his shock resignation.
FORMER South Adelaide football coach John Cahill has broken his silence over his shock departure from the Panthers by laying the blame on club management.
"I left because of inefficient and disruptive management," Cahill said last week, speaking publicly for the first time since his resignation on May 27.
"Just write that, that's all I want to say."
Asked what the Panthers, who have not won a premiership since 1964, needed to do to move forward, Cahill said: "Get rid of the hierarchy."
He would not comment further.
At the time of Cahill's departure after just eight games in charge, South chairman Dave Flanagan said there were reasons to suggest Cahill had over-reacted by quitting at such short notice.
This week, in an emailed statement, Flanagan said: "We don't seeing (sic) any benefits to the South Adelaide FC in getting into a slinging match with Jack on this issue that as far as we are concerned is dead and buried.
"However, we were extremely dissapointed (sic) that Jack walked out on the Club for no justified reason and were further dissapointed (sic) with his ludicrous comments concerning the management of the club. "I know many of our younger players that looked up to him, felt let down by his decision.
"Anyway, we've managed to move on quickly with very little disruption to our long term vision for South Adelaide. We have been extremely impressed with the discipline and commitment that our new coach, Clay Sampson, is bringing back to our very young and developing playing list."

2 things I take from that - Jack couldn't help himself (perhaps understandable given the rumours) and South don't even proof read communications sent out by the Chairman of the club, thus making them look unprofessional. No one will win if they start a slanging match, best they all move on I reakon.

Or perhaps they
did proof read the communications - making them look even more unprofessional!

Well interesting to see Jacks comments but really, if he wants to talk about someone being unprofessional. He is the one who took on the job in the first place. He is the one who walked out without even advising the board when the going got a bit tough. He is the one who left a group of youngsters who idolised him high and dry.
As someone who has been perhaps overcritical at times,I beleive that the club is finally, at last !! ,on the right road and while it might take a while yet I think that better days will come with the direction the club is now taking. Give Sammy all the resources he requires, let him steer the ship the way he wants to and give the youngsters a crack.
Go panthers!

I walked into a fish shop many years ago.
The Fella says "What you want Mate"?
$2 chips thanks, Dog_ger Says.
Bloody Jack turns around...
We chatted for a while.
He impressed me that day. So did his chips.

An interesting response from Jack. Its a pity that people didnt recognise that in hiring Jack they hired his full mannerisms as well, an old school coach calls the shots at the club, if the club could not accept that then they most probably should not have hired him in the first place.

Cahill came to the club being told "he had free reigns to call the shots".
The club decided they did not want Cahill calling the shots anymore and were not happy with his coaching "methods".....
End of story......(shame though)

Spot on B&W, you'd think Jack would be thicker skinned than that & show alot more professionalism than what he did in walking out, especially on a supposedly 100k a yr contract up front!
I heard he was told to keep quiet on the reasons he left so the club can just move on without anymore negativity & he can then keep all moneys given to him, if not the club will seek re-inbercement.
Obviously Jack couldn't help himself, it will be interesting wheather this goes any further from South Adelaides perspective.

No-mercy and Southee i've had trouble with yu 2 before, so one last time. Jack was not paid anywhere near $100k he was being paid monthly and he was paid up to date, he resigned no more $ handed over, that's it, no secret deals no contracts just a normal employee/employer agreement. Southee, the club did all it could to keep Jack the club didn't interfere with his coaching, this was his call and a poor one at that, the club was stunned to say the least at his sudden up and off departure. No conspiracy therories no behind the scenes medling, see prevous extensive post on this site if you still don't get it otherwise ring SAFC CEO and he is more than happy to discuss this with members as per a recent meeting with some club members earlier this week.

Despite all the rumours,I can assure you that John cahill was definitely
NOT paid any amount of cash up front. Also the $'s you are quoting are way off the mark as well and I can assure you my source for this information is
very,very good.

I know theres alot of things that are better to be kept in house to save the embarrassment for some people but eventually the truth does gets out.
I was wondering if darley can fill us in, their was no apparent " secret deals "you say?
What about, I heard the legends dinner in Melb ( all previous & current legends of the game ) was held the week of Souths bye & Jack was invited to attend but couldn't coz of stress related issues as told directl;y to the club by himself, it was then the club sent Jack to QLD ( all expenses payed by club ) for 4 days to relax & take the pressure off himself while Michael Taylor took training.
I suppose your going to say thats bullsh!t too?
I must say i believe my source before i do you!

Actually, I'm not
quite sure but I think it is "free rein" as allowing the horse to find its own way in a place it knows well.
An Uncle of mine in Moonta used that technique to get home from the pub - he always said he preferred a pony and trap to a car because the pony would go straight home and into the warm stable whether he was awake or not.

Everything aside.
The Great Man is a perhaps the greatest coach.
10 Premierships in the SANFL.
Back in the days when we rivalled the VFL....
I doubt it would have ever been 11 at SouthLand...

Ease up man, it's not as if he didn't have the likes of Cunningham, Ebert, Evans, Giniver, Hodges, Delaney and R.Smith to name a few. Some would say that with what he had at his disposal he was expected to win 10. From what I understand some of those blokes don't hold him in the same regard as what the record books might suggest.
