sanfl round 17 sturt v central @ unley

Postby bayman » Sat Jul 19, 2008 6:32 pm

well this is centrals biggest test for a long time, form says sturt will win at home but i feel central may rise to the occasion & stamp notice on the competition, should be a great game & pity it wasn't on sunday so all the nuetrals could go as well & get a bigger turnout, i'll tip central by 7 points in a thriller
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Dogs need to start a helluva lot better than they have this year as it could be over very early otherwise.
Not sure on the outcome yet.

Could also be Sturts toughest test as i hear the dogs have tapered off from the hard mid winter training and getting ready for a big push towards the finals.

it will be a good game, sturt have got through the last 2 games with ease and it is time to play a game agaisnt some good opposition. next 3 weeks sturt have centrals, eagles and then norwood which is 3 challenging games. chambo to kick 5, and gowans gives away a free kick in front of sturts goals to let sturt win the game by the small margin of 1 point.

its always a tough game vs the dogs regardless of their form etc. they seem to be hitting their straps so rick must get his thinking cap on for this one.

We have won the past two at home against Central, thanks mainly to our esteemed coach, Rick Macgowan.

Sturt will win by 29 points. :D

it will be a cracker of a game, worthy of a 5000 plus crowd. calling all supporters of sturt and centrals to venture out to unley oval.

I'll be there rain, hail or shine...

Speaking of weather, I think the early long range forecast has Saturday for showers and 15 degrees. With this big match justifiably being the ABC broadcast game, will that effect crowd numbers along with the average weather predicimant ???

I would think anything above 3000 would be realistic, especially considering the confined supporter vantage points at House Brothers Oval. I don't have anything against the Sturt FC but Unley is probably the least favourite ground I have in terms of restricted vantage points, especially over on the outer wing side. I just hope the minimal catering services dont run out of drinks this weekend by 3/4 time of the 2's

Not really sure which Doggies side will come out this week to face the Double Blues. I know one thing for sure, Roy Laird will be keen to address our renowned slow starts to games this year and will be reiterating to the boys the importance of getting off to a good start. Last time at Unley we lost by 7 goals after playing 20 minutes of crap footy in the last quarter. I think if we can at least put somewhere close to 4 consistant quarters of footy together, we might just be a slight chance to take the points.

I think Yves Sibenaler will have to be at his absolute best to try and minimise Chambo's influence and Havelberg would be the likely match up for Perrie with Hav playing alright on Sarge last time round. Danny Schell's absence will be a bigger blow to the side this week than what I thought he was last week against Norwood, so Luke Cowan and Heath Lawry will have to play really really well up forward. I hope Roy brings back Chris Gowans (and maybe Scott Dutschke) back in the side to give some extra strength around the midfield and when resting up forward. In saying all this, I think it will be a ripper game and hopefully we see a good display of hard, tough, quality SANFL football.

Reluctantly, I tip the Double Blues by under 2 goals... (Boy I hope I'm wrong !!)

There was a game against Sturt in 2005, where we were down all day, but just got home in the end, and it really got our season and finals build up on track, i think the win on Saturday against Norwood was very similar in alot of ways, and i get the feeling we will start to see a different Dogs side than we have for the majority of the season thus far.

Centrals to make a big statement and win by 18 points.

Can't go past the Double Blues at the moment, but if the Dogs carry on their final quarter form from the Norwood Oval game on the weekend, who knows what could happen...

Get that barbie ready SFC, I'll have a green token, a yellow token and three red tokens please.

Nothing beats the system employed at Richmond...

The guy taking the cash had a selection of about 12 couloured tickets to hand out... (worked pretty well too!)...

I know what you mean Sam. Last week may turn out been the turning point that the rest of the competition has been expecting for the Dogs. Sturt have an opportunity to stop it in its tracks. But I am fearful of the Dogs this week...to play pretty average footy for most of their last 2 encounters and then win them both is a warning sign IMO.

Sam!

The game was at Elizabeth. Cooper missed an easy shot on goal and Central won a great match.

In 2006 at Unley, Sturt kicked 10 goals in the 2nd Quarter but still lost by about 14 points. Tommy Hurley excelled that day too. :D :D

Yes im aware it was at Elizabeth, We trailed by 26 points late in the 3rd qtr, but just scrapped home, by 8 points, and at the time im pretty sure we were sitting 8th with 3 wins and about 5 losses, we didnt lose another game after that, and won about 15 straight to win the flag, im not saying the Norwood game might have quite the same dramatic effect, but i think if the Dogs are going to have a big turning point in 2008, that win against Norwood on the weekend was it.

Will Sharples play this week. I thik i saw him in the best for the 2's which suprised me. He has been looked at by a few AFL clubs but it seems his attitude and dedication is not there and noted by the clubs
