How many AFL players from each club?

Postby SABRE » Mon Jul 14, 2008 2:26 pm

G'Day crew,
Most of us can name quite a few from our own clubs, but how many
currently active AFL players (this year) come from other SANFL clubs ?
Sorry if this has been discussed already, as a new poster I'd be very
interested to know exactly how many come from each club.
Understand 'spell_check' is one of the resident 'number crunchers' on
this site, but happy to hear info from all on board.
Cheers everyone,
:)

Not including recruits "aligned" to SANFL clubs through the mini draft, Centrals have the following:

Justin Westhoff, Mathew Westhoff, Jonathon Giles (Port Power)

Eddie Sansbury, Alan Obst, Nathan Grima* (Kangaroos)

Stuart Dew (Hawthorn)

Brad Symes, James Moss* (Adelaide Crows)

Jay Nash (Essendon)

Travis Varcoe (Geelong)

Michael O'Loughlin (Sydney)

* Rookie list player

That's all I can think of for now, would be interesting to make a team up of SANFL players currently playing AFL from each individual SANFL club. I might give Centrals a try later on...

Until a year or two ago, we were the only SANFL side to be able to name a full 22 (and the highest quality 22).

I think we're now down to 18 or 19, but will have the highest drafted SA player again this year, plus 2 or 3 others.

Thanks Big Phil, that's just the sort of list with club details I'm looking for.
You've stolen my thunder too. Some mates & I were wondering what sort
of teams our SANFL clubs could put together if it wasn't for the bloody AwFuL.

Keep them coming gang. I'll post the Norwood list if someone doesn't beat me to it.

North don't have half as many players running around as they did 5 or 10 years ago, christ I remember when we had Ben Hollands, Darren Jarman and Wayne Carey running around!

This would probably be just about it.

Adelaide: Greg Gallman, Nick Gill
Brisbane: Jason Roe
Hawks: Luke McEntee
Kangaroos: Matt Campbell, Michael Wundke
Melbourne: Jared Rivers, Mark Jamar, Ben Holland
Port: Proud to say not one
Richmond: Shane Edwards

Im only guessing but I'd reckon Norwood and then maybe West would have the highest numbers?

Wouldn't include Meeson, Massie or Matty Thomas either whom all came to us via the AFL mini-draft.

And that list of yours might be from last year Sabre...

You had Darren Pfieffer listed with Adelaide... He's at Carlton

And John Meesen at the Crows as well, who is now at Melbourne...

BTW , Meesen was also a mini draft selection, from Geelong way originally I beleive ?

And I think Cleve Hughes and Hugh Minson are now officially of AFL lists, they have retired have they not ???
