Considering the positive result for Sturt today at Murray Bridge, is the club likely to repeat the excersize next season?

Rumours are abounding about an upcomming match in the Adelaide Hills at a certain venue if it gets the rumoured upgrade!

most times it looks like this during the winter


they will never play an SANFL match on this ground. rumour had it a year ago that someone (council/sanfl) would build a new oval and facilities somewhere else in mt. barker to cater for sanfl footy. still holding my breath

Sturt should feel right at home then....

yeah i havnt heard anything about the new Mt Barker oval in 6months

the pic is of mt barker oval, the home of the mt barker roos. the ground that sturt would be looking at is the mt barker showground which is suppodesly going to be upgraded in the next couple of years. sturt and the sanfl have been having some early talk about it, just waiting on some support from the government.

How about some support from the AFL instead? The govt has given $100m to Footy Park, yet The AFL squeezes us on junior development $$$ because they don't like the size of the SANFL salary cap and they want "AFL" incorporated in a name change. And plus they want to buy the Sydney Stadium.

Let's face it - what does the AFL do for feeder leagues? What do the AFL clubs do for feeder clubs? They have no interest there because of the draft and because they are effectively competing for the same memberships.

The draft compensates feeder clubs quite nicely and the AFL have had nothing to say on our salary cap for years. The salary cap has never gone downwards either - the pressure the AFL put on the SANFL a number of years ago had no impact.

I'm not convinced smac. What is the ratio of how many players go through a club to how many get drafted? Payments after drafting are also staggered. I'm not sure that the final amount received matches the time, effort and money spent on all the juniors.

But it shouldn't - the club also gets some internal benefits for that development. More than the AFL gets.

The AFL gets its product served up on a plate. All they do is add the icing - Auskick on the MCG for example, player/charity benefits etc. It's the feeder leagues and clubs that do most of the hard yakka but out of the total revenue pool in AFL, the percentage of receipts is pretty small overall I would say (although I don't know the figures per se).

I think they do a hell of a lot more than most would be aware of.

They pay the wage of a considerable number of SANFL employees, most notably in the development team (the GM of Game Development at the SANFL for example).

I am certainly not in favour of a lot of things the AFL does (or doesn't do), but they don't do too badly in game development.

This thread is going off topic, but I would be interested at some stage to see a full picture of the AFL's contribution to the SANFL and as a whole to the junior market. Likewise for Port and Adelaide to the SANFL clubs.

Now that would be a genuine challenge for Spelly (for once!)

why would you ask a stats man about the contributions of the afl to the sanfl and the whole junior develoment. most people in their postions with the afl and sanfl wouldnt even know what they are squawk

Very valid point mags, I wouldn't have a clue myself. It's "All Eyez On West Sydney" as far as the AFL goes.

What would have happened if Glenelg/Sturt were due to play at Unley later this season? Surely they couldnt have held it there? it couldnt handle anymore than 7k IMO

Tongue firmly planted in cheek there M80s - hence the emoticon. Spelly is everyone's answer to stats, just wanted to see if his boundaries could be stretched but without any genuine expectation.
