5RPH - Disgraceful call

Now Im not usually in the habit of serving it up to those who work hard in presenting the SANFL comp to us over the airwaves but did anyone else notice the, dare I say it, inappropriate comment by Paul Blandis today (Im presuming it was Paul as it wasnt DB or Smithy)?
In the third quarter CLive Waterhouse was paid a mark that they thought clearly wasnt a mark and the call was along the lines of -
"They have held the ball longer at a young boys Village People sleepover"
Disgraceful IMO, I might not have got it word for word as I was stunned for 10 min after that it was said, but the intent was along the lines of the above....
To make a joke like that is probably OK in the pub with your mates (even these days I dont think its appropriate anywhere) but over the airwaves to thousands of SANFL fans?
No....

Obviously it was LifeFM for me this week.
But have to agree that if someone on RPH said that on air then they really did cross a line. An obvious reference to kiddie fiddling is out of order. Sorry RPH but unless Dutchy somehow miss heard then it was just plain wrong, wrong, wrong

I'm certainly not having a go at 5RPH, my comment is directed to all media covering footy. I don't need to be entertained by your call, I need to be informed. So please lay of the lame attempts at humour and just call the damned game.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a bit of entertainment as long as it doesn't sidetrack - or sidetrack too much - from what their actual purpose is, and that's to call footy informatively.

That would be okay if it was indeed "entertaining", but it's usually self-indulgent, annoying, and very boring. Just call the game.

He held it for a millisecond, clearly not a mark.
Having said that, a fiddle for a millisecond is still a fiddle. Therefore wrong. The statement if true on RPH is very wrong and someone should be pulled into line.

There's so much wrong with that comment it doesn't bear too much thought, otherwise it just gets worse and worse
It's not even that funny .... altho when did we last hear a funny joke about homosexual pedophelia
It would have been nothing more than a careless, honest mistake .... but geez I thought cracking a blonde joke in front of my brother's mother-in-law (blonde) was bad

Yes RPH do bring us a call of a game but boy it is a case of better than nothing but only just.I had the unfortunate experience of not being able to attend the North v West game due to being on-call and those poor souls who have to listen to that C-grade effort dished up each week just to keep in touch with the SANFL I do truely feel sorry for.Thankfully I am in a position to attend 99% of games and did not realise it was so bad.Arise Sir J.T.C I give you a knighthood for dedication to the game under the most trying of circumstances and all at 4am.

It's not that bad redden.
I only have to get up at 5:00am not 4:00

Sorry redden whites...I know it's a matter of personal taste but have to disagree. Apart from the specific incident that Dutchy refers to I would much pefer to listen to RPH and LifeFM than the dreadful stuff that 3AW and that awful Rex Hunt spew out.
OK they make mistakes, don't we all, but at least they don't scream and screech like a banshee or spend most of the time giggling like 12 year olds in the playground....nah give me RPH and LifeFM any day
It's normally 5am...today was an exception....see 'things that make you laugh' thread

I tuned into 5RPH and listened to last weeks broadcast game for a while,( South had the bye) I thought along the same lines, DB has the same dronelike voice he had when we went to primary school together back in about 1957 at Tramnere, I dont recall who the others were, but one of them had a bit of exicetment about him and the other was a bit bland. I thought, what they need is a boom mike to get the outside crowd reaction or some taped crowd dubbing in the background to instill a bit of life into a rather dull call, mind you they did, and do try and hype up the call, somehow it lacks some pizazz and excitement, however it is tonnes better than tuneing into the 3AW team of 'talk it up for the ratings machine', the screaming into your head, same as K.G., does nothing for the game, in fact it turns people away from listening to the broadcast. I know of quite a few friend who listen, only because there is no one else to listen to. We all know RPH has little income stream to help with the improvement to the presentation, but they must be able to come up with something, its possibly on the same level as when Tom Warhurst used to broadcast on 5KA and how long ago was that.
Somehow or other that was supposed to read like constructive critisism, I hope you all take it that way.

I watched a Pine Lodge replay of a game a few weeks ago and thought a young bloke calling [well he sounded young] was alright and just called the footy with no crap.
-Not sure of his name but may have been Rob something ?

This comment actually reminds me of this match:
Round 3 1975
Norwood 1.6 11.13 11.21 22.27 (159)
Woodville 6.4 6.5 10.11 12.14 (86)
Norwood, 7601
Because this match was described in the Advertiser as "inconsistent as the female mind". Imagine if that was said or published now!

Some may say "just as accurate"

There's always plenty of jokes about priests going around.
Not suitable for a football call though.
