Port on a roll and now a huge chance for a final 5 spot, Eagles gone IMHO, hope Port played better footy today than last week, but well done to Timmy and co after the supporters were calling for his head earlier

W 8.7 55

GOALS
P: Waterhouse 4; Surjan 2; Wilson, Saunders, Hargraves, Elstone, Summerton
E: Passador 2; Petrenko, Rimmington, Hentschel, Dabrowski, Jarrad, Schwarze

BEST
P: Surjan, Summerton, Waterhouse, J Clayton, Perry, Lees, Elstone, DePasquale
E: Rimmington, Petrenko, Passador, Hier, Hetnschel

Bloody good win to the Maggies. Bloody good win. Three in a row and right back in with a shot at finals now. Played great footy today. Great attack at the ball and the player, cleared out the forward line and allowed the guys to lead strongly.

Eagles, just a crap gameplan today to be blunt. Was a bit worried with their forward line height at the start of the game, but their entry really gave them minimal chance for success. You cant just bomb the ball long and hope for the best. They had their share of the ball and had more inside50s I believe, but it was the delivery that really let them down.

Surjan, Clayton, Summerton and Waterhouse were fantastic. Waterhouse' 3rd quarter really put the game into the Maggies favour, whilst the running work of Surjan was fantastic. Clayton and Summerton great work in the middle.

A good sign for the magpies is that with Casey Carr, Mardling, Mark Clayton, Biacsi, Looby, Eichner, Batson and Taylor playing reserves, it shows a bit of depth and some good options for the coming weeks.

Looking at the remaining games for what its worth I predict a North V Port Elimination final.
Eagles are gone , Norwood have the toughest run home.

Sometimes you can get away with not being on the ball and come away with a win. Not unless you come up against a committed Port side such as today. No way. It was not a matter of not trying - while we gave an in and out full on effort, it was a 100% game time effort from the Magpies. I actually thought we would be 5-8 two weeks ago, but the wins were on the different foot. Against North after the bye, I don't know what to expect as we appear to be the same as Forrest Gumps box of chocolates this year.

The Reserves seem to mirror the wins of the League. With an almost symmetrical score line of Eagles 18.8 to Port 8.19, Grocke was the unlucky benefactor of being the one tall too many this week.

It was actually a good standard game today. Port played very well. Their defence very solid and when the game was there to be won, the talented trio of Clayton, Summerton and Waterhouse stepped up. They simply worked and ran harder than the Eagles.

The Eagles couldn't get clean ball into the forward line, but my biggest gripe was the lack of manning up. A few steps behind is not good enough, let alone 10 metres behind. It was easy for Port to transfer the ball from back line up to CHF all day. This lack of discipline is why, for example, someone like Salter isn't yet at the next level.

Hentschel did some good things, but I thought he let the side down today on quite a few occasions both up forward and down back. Schwarze is another who frustrates the crap out of me. He falls over too much and IMO plays for himself instead of the team. Given we have many tall options, he is the one who should be playing reserves until he proves he can play the role that is needed of him.

Petrenko was the best player for the Eagles today IMO. He is one who is disciplined and stays on his man. He also should be playing in a more creative role like he did in the last quarter when he was moved up forward. A very good game by him. Other better players I thought were Rimington, Powell, McKenzie. Klun and Fiacchi tried hard.

I didn't think the coach did a lot wrong today. He made moves to try and get something happening and I thought the structure he started with was okay. Just a lack of that extra efforts needed by some of the players and a very good Port team who deserved their 5 goal win.

Very disappointing. Pretty much the nail in the coffin, with Norwood 1.5 wins ahead plus a game in hand.

Good competitive game, but we are just not up to it at the moment. Completely wasteful up forward. 53 inside 50's for 15 scoriing shots and eight goals, compared to 41 by Port for 23 scoring shopts and 11 goals. Worst thing is this was so obvious from the first few minutes, but we seemed to do nothing to change the way we went forward. Can't believe out of Klun, Petrenko, Fitzgerald, Rimmington, or even Jarrad, none are up forward for the crumbs.

Schwarze will get rubbed out, seems to get reported every couple weeks. Rimmington report was a joke.

Pathetic decision by the selectors to drop Adam Grocke to the Reserves after the great game he played in our win against Central. Our forward line was terrible today. That's it, I am finished with the Eagles in 2008.

Where's MickyJ, thought he would have vented his frustration with a 5 page post by now...

Really up and down foirm from the Eagles playing as good as they did against us and then by the sounds of it, were prettyy average today.

I forgot, isn't there an Eagles function on tonight down at AAMI... All the irate WWT and Ronnie haters will be down there venting their spleen and frustration no doubt. Looking forward to some interesting opinions from Micky, holden78 and a few other Eagles fans...

I wonder if the We hate Ronnie, give him the flick topic will pop it's head up again. The Fuller apology thread might just quieten off a tad...

Well done to the Maggies, sounds like the Doggies will face them in a bit of form at Hamra Homes next week. Will the Power take a few of the better players back into the AFL, the likes of Surjan and Wilson or will they play out at Elizabeth, only time will tell.

Really looking forward to next weeks game, a bit nervous already though, LifeFM are calling this game and I have been "recruited" to make my Boundary Rider debut for the live call. Looking forward to working with Phil Herden and John Nankerville though, should be fun.

GO U DOGGIES...

Big Phil...
