SANFL HOPES FOR BUMPER CROWDS
With no live AFL matches in Adelaide this weekend, the SANFL is urging SA footy fans to get behind their local teams this Saturday.
The headline act sees the greatly anticipated top of the table clash between Glenelg and Sturt at Challenge Recruitment Oval which some are hailing ‘game of the year’.
The Glenelg Football Club has put the challenge to Tigers and Double Blues fans hoping to post the biggest crowd of the season by eclipsing the 7,711 figure from their match against the Magpies on June 9.
Whilst much attention will be directed to the Bay on Saturday, the three other games also carry significant weight in their own right. Rivals Eagles and Central will battle it out at Woodville with the Eagles desperate to return to winning form and the Bulldogs keen to bounce back from last week’s loss to Glenelg. Norwood will be looking to strengthen its top five position against the improving West Adelaide at Coopers Stadium whilst at Alberton the Magpies and Roosters do battle following impressive wins last week.
The last time there was no AFL in Adelaide was Round 7 (Rivalry Round) earlier this year which attracted 20,258 across four SANFL matches.
Last year’s AFL-free weekend was Round 12 which attracted 16,889 fans.
The SANFL is supporting the Cancer Council’s Call to Arms campaign at all four matches this Saturday.

ALSO, some exciting news! There is EVERY chance that the first "away" cake will appear this weekend at Pecker Park. I am not too sure of the flavour & style yet, so stay tuned!

Don't be hasty, make sure you select an appropriate clash cake to avoid complaints from the home cake eaters.

Goal umpires will be waving yellow flags this round to help spread awareness of the Cancer Council's Call to Arms campaign.

If there is then Glenelg should be admitted as the next team to the AFL rather than a team based on the Gold Coast!

I'm guessing about 3,500 at Woodville Oval...
About 8,500 in the big clash at Glenelg...
Probably just on 3,000 at Coopers Stadium...
And maybe 4,500 down at Alberton Oval...
So with no AFL action on in Adelaide this week, I reckon my estimate of just under 20,000 fans will be a pretty good effort...
The SANFL would be pretty happy with that and well done to them as well for endorsing this round with the cancer awareness promotion...
GO U DOGGIES...
Big Phil...

If it wasn't virtually live on TV then you might be right. That will kill any chance of getting 10K stone dead. Dumb. It will keep a lot of semi-interested Crows fans on the couch today instead of venturing outdoors to the Challenged Oval.
I for one wished the SANFL would play their match of the round at 4pm or even later as a replay. If I still lived in the country I know I would feel differently though.

That'd be awesome if we can get it happening. Perhaps Sturt or Glenelg would have more of a case to enter the comp than the new franchise

Unfortunately, there will less than 3,000 at Woodville & there will be about the same amount at the North v Port match, maybe a bit more.
