R11 COCA-COLA STAR SEARCH AWARD NOMINATION

Jared Petrenko from the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club has been named the Round Eleven Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee.

At 18 years of age, and playing in just his sixth League game, Petrenko was instrumental in the Eagles’ last quarter fight back, to take the 10 point win over South Adelaide at Hickinbotham Oval on Sunday.
Petrenko’s strong presence through the backline earned him 16 possessions. Using his electrifying pace to nullify his opponent he was very good in the one-on-one contests and provided many of the rebounds from defence.
Making his League debut in Round 3 2007, Petrenko played just 3 League games before being picked up on the Adelaide Football Club Rookie List. He was a member of the SANFL Under 18 State team in 2007.
Petrenko was recruited from the Portland Football Club before progressing through the Woodville-West Torrens underage structure and breaking into the League side. He is the Eagles’ first Coca-Cola Star Search nominee for season 2008.

And Big Phil, another bit of info for your thread, he made his debut in Round 22 of last year, not Round 3. Coincedentally, I'm not sure how he could have made his debut then, as it was a bye week.

Well done to Jared, looks like if his body stays sound and he maintains consistancy, might find himself promoted to the senior list at Adelaide in '09...

AFL Rookie listed players are eligable (obviously) to be nominated for this award by the SANFL...

Good to see. Was very excited when he was picked up by Adelaide so he could play another season with us. Fingers crossed his body holds up and he can have a long and successful AFL career. He'd be a monty for being upgraded at the end of the year.

Obviosuly you just copied your original post off the SANFL web site which had the original media release on Jared's award...

I'm not suprised League headquarters stuffed up the post with Jared's debut and then it's just comical that he made his debut in a bye week :shock

Oh yeah, in case of being cited for copyright infringements, I'd better put a link there.

As I said in Eagle News #6 I reckon Jared is our second rising star this year as i'm sure Travis Lane was our first in round 3 or 4.

Yes, yet another mistake, but this article is correct, the other should be Round 10.
