This game is on this weekend. Does anyone know where and when and who is in the state under 20s squad.

It was listed in the budget when west played south a few weeks back but I cant find it at the moment.

The Under 18's played WA on Sunday night before the power game so I doubt it.

Yeah, the Sandgropers handed out a bit of a thrashing too, they won by about 10 goals, SA only kicked 4 goals.

Yeah, we copped a sizeable spanking. Its ok to say we have the best state comp outisde the AFL, but if our juniors aren't able to compete nationally, as has been the case for a few years now, it doesnt mean anything.

Yes it is rather depressing each year.

Every year there are the selection issues. How the hell you can play Wilson (no offence to the kid as he gives it his best) ahead of Dawson and Slattery is beyond me. Boras plays every trial game at Full forward then you dont play him in the carnival. Redden is your best ruckman but you play him at Full forward for most of the game.

On top of this the kids do so much training together which is great but show no improvement at all. It is as though all they are doing is drills and it does not appear as though they are actually been taught anything.

Having said that the scoreboard flattered WA on the weekend and WA have an unstoppable player in Naitanui which would make it hard to beat at the best of times.

Now the kids themselves dont do themselves any favours as they rock up to state training with the worst endurance in the country including div2 states and this was the biggest factor in sundays flogging.

Jolly, Webb, Taylor
K.Thompson, Lally, Crate
Avery, Hall, Murphy
Kirwan, Schulz, Hadden

Guilaus, Barnby, McInerney

Duncan, Fosdike, Thomas, Watson

I don't know enough about the positional capabilities of the lads other than the Centrals boys, BUT, my side would look like this...

Assuming the top listed players are in the forward line down, this would be my side...

F: Grosser, Weir, Brown
HF:Jolly, Webb, Taylor
C: K.Thompson, Lally, Hadden
HB: Avery, Hall, Duncan
B: Kirwan, Schulz, Barmby

R:Guilaus, Crate, McInerney

I: Murphy, Fosdike, Thomas, Watson

Louis Hadden is definaltley not a back pocket player and Luke Barmby is better suited deep in defence as opposed to being on the ball. Ash Duncan has been an absolute star in the reserves for Centrals and would be very suprised if he doesn't start at CHB or at least on the flank...

Just to let you know, this is what I wrote on the Centrals forum about their representatives in the side and I was pushing to get a few people along to support the young kids, especially for the people who's club has a bye this week...

Big Phil wrote:Hey Doggies Fans,

With Centrals having a bye this week, those who are still looking for their weekly footy fix should check out the weekends action between the State Under 18's and State Under 20's sides...

The game is on this Saturday 14th June at Adelaide Oval, commencing at 11.00am.

For those who are interested, Centrals have 3 lads who will be taking to the field for the Under 20's side from the 5 Dogs players they had named in the initial squad. I believe Joel Baldwin was unlucky to miss selection and Chad Obst is forced to miss due to injury but get along Saturday morning and cheer on 3 superbly talented and up and coming league stars for the Dogs, as in Ashley Duncan, Luke Barmby and Louis Hadden.

For those who don't see much of the reserves, Ashley Duncan is a very consistant , hard at it, aggressive type centre half back, half back flanker who rarely gets beaten in a 1 on 1 contest and sets up so much drive and run from half back with his lovely left foot skills. So impressive with the little off the ball things, 1%'ers, voice, tackles, sheppards etc. Kind of in the Tyson Hay mould of player, who can play on either the tall or small opponent and he is quick across the ground. He doesn't shirk at a contest ever and I certainly hope Ash can go on to have a wonderful league career similar to that of Tyson's. He is also one of my favourite players to watch and is a very nice young man as well...

Luke Barmby is another young quality, defender who has has plenty of confidence to go with an amazing turn of pace. Luke played in all of the early League trials at the start of the year and seemed impressive in the games I saw of him. He injured a wrist I believe in the first game against Port playing reserves and has since been back in the 2's for at least the last month or so, regularly getting in the best players. Maybe just needs to work on his disposal at times as he can be prone to turning it over occassionally, but other than that, certainly has a big future ahead of him at league level, kind of reminds me of a young Nathan Steinberner a bit...

And of course, Louis Hadden has already experienced playing at League level for the Dogs after playing a handful of games last year since coming down from Barossa club Angaston, halfway through the year before. Is a nippy little wingman / onballer who also has the ability to kick goals on regular occasions. Only has a slight frame and can sometimes get pushed off the ball a little easy but certainly makes up for that with his turn of pace as well. Reminds me somewhat of a young Adam Switala and is very poised on either side of his body with good clean skills. Certainly has a long term future at a higher level, especially as he puts a bit of weight on his bones.

Good luck to the 3 boys on Saturday, let's hope they perform well as there may even be talent scouts from the AFL sitting in the stands, who knows. Otherwise, like a good bottle of red wine, they'll hopfully get better with age and of course, we'd be more than happy for them to all go on and have long term, successful careers with our great club. Try and get down to to the game if you are not doing anything else...

GO U DOGGIES LADS & THE STATE UNDER 20's...

Big Phil...

If you haven't got anything else to do and want to check out SA's future stars at both AFL and SANFL League level, please head down to Adelaide Oval Saturday morning. The weather should be fine and there is plenty of undercover seating to keep you warm and dry...

I agree with Duncan being the best CHB in the team but he will be giving away a lot of height and to be honest in a game like this it would be nice to see how he would go as part of the midfield rotation.

Likewise with Hadden I have often thought he could do well rebounding the ball out of defence and if Barmby could get on the ball as it comes out of defense he could get it into the forward line in a flash.

Good write up the boys though.

By all accounts (from people who were there watching) it's understandable a loss like that occurred, with Natamui in the side making a huge difference. He's destroying senior sides in the WAFL, so it's no surprise that he controlled the game like he did at this level.

Can't disagree with what toy have posted there whatever...

I know at a few stages throughout the year, Ash has occasionally drifted on ball and done well and similarly with Luke Barmby also. The 2 lads mentioned are so good at rebounding from half back that more often and not, they do break the lines of the centre square and end up driving the ball deep into attack. In that regard, you might be right with your suggestions.

Louis Hadden would make a good half back flanker I think, plus with it being an "internal representative" game like this, it could be an appropriate means to experiment a little bit with players and their positions. Who knows, could be good for their development and help them take the next step to a higher level. I certainly hope so for the 3 Doggies boys...

Thanks for the comment on the write up of the Centrals lads too, I really appreciate that mate...

I know for a fact Ash Duncan is only 19 so he is obviously UNDER 20...

See here... http://www.cdfc.com.au/players/squad/49_Ashley_Duncan.htm

And this is what I found from the Glenelg website about young Jack Fosdike...

Glenelg Football Club:
Name: Jack Fosdike
D.O.B: 02/10/1988
Height: 175cm
Weight: 75kg

So according to my maths, both the lads are under 20 years old and easily qualify...

Oh, I just realised that the original post in this thread listed ALL the players details including the date of births...
