Make up of the ladder similar to 2002?

With already a two and a half win gap between 3rd and 4th, this is well on the way to being a repeat of 2002 where 6 wins seperated 3rd and 4th. I don't think that the gap between 5th and 6th in 2002 will be repeated (4 wins).
In 2002 there was a 42-1 win/loss ratio in matches where one of the top three played one of the bottom 6. Currently this season it is 19-2 in favour of the top three against the bottom 6.

lets just hope the league dont have a shotgun reaction and revert to a top 4, although it was enjoyable that year in 2003 to see Port finish 5th and miss the finals

I wish it WAS similar to 2002, Norwood were in the top 3 and Glenelg were bottom

Spelly, over the years when Glenelg were up, Central have been down and vice-versa, except for maybe a couple of years in the 1980s. What is the finals record like between Glenelg and Central District?

Might as well as just have a Final 3 this year, the Elim Final before the Qualifying Final really will be a case of the reserves playing first.

Glenelg have played Central three times in finals for three wins. This however, was in the middle of the losing streak of 12 in finals for Central - 1982 EF, 1984 QF and 1988 1SF.

After a couple of hiccups for Central, I still think that the top three will be decided well before Round 23. Currently the top three vs bottom 6 stands at 23-3.

While the Eags' form has been intermittent (to put it kindly), on looking at the current ladder I wouldn't be at all surprised if come R23 both Port and the Eags make it, and both Norwood and North miss. Another 'Ask Spelly' question: what's the latest in the season (at least in the last generation or so) that the teams sitting 6th and 7th (or worse) on the ladder, have both gone on to make the finals?

Spelly, could you please post the 1998 ladder (with win/loss and percentage) at the end of the minor round?

After Round 12 1989 (with 10 rounds to go) both Glenelg (7th) and Norwood (8th) made the 5.

Thanks mate! Great stuff.
I had a background thought of some similarity between Glenelg 07 & 08 and Sturt 97 & 98 (and the lead up years of ordinary results.) Just wanted to see that the ladder looked like for '98.
Sturt had a dominant year in 1998 but they probably weren't finals hardened enough come the major round.

That is one very very even ladder. Even though Sturt were well ahead on wins, often percentage gives a good feel for who's competitive and who's streets ahead of the pack. It wouldn't be often that the top team/best % in the comp is shy of 56.
