As a player I liked his toughness but "hated" Glenelg and the Cows! Now as a media man I actually look forward to his articles because he says what others are reluctant to.

And he had Ivens on the bench, geez the South Australian team must be going pretty rough to have to go as low as North's reserves to put a squad together.

McDermott also said every state bar Tasmania was represented. Pretty sure Luke Crane is from Tasmania originally, although he was recruited from Queensland.

Over - rated in every aspect of the game......he couldnt play, captain or commentate........................
if it was any other era he would have been lucky to get a game in Glenelg reserves.......
cant stand the man..!!!!

could play, great captain, commentator i agree he leaves me cold & he is a 2 time premiership player at glenelg so the 'era' quip is wrong as well & as for coaching, his record isn't good so i'd have to agree but did he have the cattle ?

Yeah he could certainly play, although he probably played his best footy (for Glenelg) before the Crows were formed.
I also noticed he listed "Allen" in his interchange list, is this supposed to be James Allen from North who is from Victoria??
As for this origin idea for state leagues, its just play silly, its the SANFL v VFL, origin has nothing to do with it!!

LMAO
2 time premiership player, in and under never complained about the treatment he got, One of the best exponents of the handball in this state especially from under a pack. Before people go off I'm saying he was the best just one of the best. A hard unit who was the barometer of our side. I've seen a picture sheperding back two players (one on each arm - strength) whilst Hodgy gives off the handball. So it wasn't his offensive skills that made him loved at teh Bay, it was his defensive skills. Not surprised people don't think he could play as he wasn't a flashy look at me type player.
Could play, All Australian pre and post Crows. Always a good sign when opposition supporters start criticsing someone as it usually illustrates that they are someone they didn't like because they we're good against their teams. e.g. people who didn't rate Mark Williams as a player.

are you for real? of having some DF rant? Cos thats without doubt the dumbest, most irrational comment I have ever heard.
played 404 games...A premiership captain, 3 time B & F, 3 time All Australian, Fos Williams medallist. How does a man that "couldnt play" do all that?? serious... can you answer that please? How do you achieve such things and you "cant play"? (although the glenelg reserves are travelling well at the minute). The man was a CHAMPION in Glenelgs greatest era.
Wont defend his coaching nor his radio career... but as a player the man is a champion. Your views are typically port adelaide.
