Dunno if this is the right forum but anyway...

From Monday's advertiser:
A senior AFL goal umpire is critically ill from head injuries sustained in a car crash.

Ante Perkovic, 34, of West Lakes, was a passenger in a sports car which lost control after hitting a Stobie pole.

He was to officiate at the Adelaide-Melbourne clash at AAMI Stadium yesterday.

From the AFLUA website:
South Australian based Goal Umpire, Ante Perkovic, was injured in a motor vehicle accident on Friday 16 May.

He is in an induced coma in Royal Adelaide Hospital

We will update this information as further news becomes available.

Our thoughts are with Ante and his family at this time.

He was emergency goal umpire in last year's AFL grand final. His last senior match was Glenelg v North Adelaide two weeks ago. All the best to him.

Despite footy fans not being big fans of umpires in general (admittidley, more so field umpires) you wouldn't wish that kind of tragic thing to happen to anyone, let alone an SANFL and AFL goal umpire. My old man works with fellow goal umpire of Ante (Mario Corello, I think - he's the one that has sported a nice porn star moustache lately) and he said that Ante was in a pretty bad way.

Of course, we all would share the same sentiments as Dog_ger and hope that Ante makes a quick recovery as soon as possible and hopefully we'll see him waving his white flags sooner rather than later. The SANFL has had a pretty disaterous year in terms of tragedy having already lost 2 players with Sam Davis and Lee Blake, let's hope and prey that poor Ante doesn't become another tragic road crash statistic and like I said, makes a full recovery and doesn't suffer any long term ramifications.

All the best to Ante, his family and friends in this, no doubt, difficult time. (Any more news on his current state as yet ???)

Big Phil...

Unfortunately I don't.

Leo Corrieri is the one with the mo I think you're referring to.

Has anyone seen the Glenelg tram recently with all those red and black stickers that represents people who have died or been injured on SA roads since April 1 (I think?)? When I first saw it months back, it was pretty bare. My older bro was involved an horrific accident similar to the above not too long back .. he's come through, though. The tram now is almost completely red with those stickers. It's an awful reminder of how many people are lost/injured on the roads in such a short amount of time.

The only goal umpire I dislike Big Phil is Don Caputo.

agree with Kookas...doesn't matter whether he's an ump or not...wouldn't wish that on anyone. Thoughts with his family and friends and hope he makes a successful recovery.

Yeah that's who I meant Scott, thanks mate...

I must have thought Mario, as in the Nintendo game character because there would now be a resemblance with the mo !!!

Been a wonderful servant for the AFL and the SANFL as well.

I've had the priviledge of chatting to him in the past, total class.
