What's happened South?

south got their 3rd goal about half way through the first quarter & their 4th goal early in the last term, south after 1/4 time were insipid while the bays while dominating were still pretty sloppy with (in slippery conditions although it never rained) their disposal, macconnell kicked 6 & grima & duldig kicked 2 & for south the lone hand & their best player imho was warren with 4 goals (2 in the first & 2 in the last)

what a disaster that was...

South were clearly lucky to get some early wins and I suspect a lot of it had to do with Jack having the jump on some of the other SANFL coaches in relation to the way he coached the team, yet as the season has worn on that advantage has been negated as the season evolves.

The blunt fact I suppose is that South have a "thin" list. Several very good SANFL footballer and a number of players who would no doubt make the best players lists in the SAAFL-VFl yet not able to make it at the level of the SANFL.

Still its not all doom and gloom either, we have 3 wins and a draw for this year as opposed to four wins for last year and I am confident that we will continue to win games this year and we will see a significant improvement over where we were last season.

Its been well discussed about the players that both left voluntarally and those that were let go from the club. Clearly the club will hit the recruiting path heavilly at the end of the season in an attempt to give Jack something to work with, yet if at the same time we have put together a fitter, stronger commited core group of players for recruits to come into, that will be something that we have not had for a long long time at the club and it wouldent be unreasonable to expect that we will continue to get better as a result.

Time will tell I suppose, Jack and the club in general have my full support in what they are trying to do. Losses like today are a hard pill to swallow, yet it will make it all the sweeter when we are competitive on the field and are the side handing out the thrashings rather than recieving them!

I concur with your comments.

This season was always likely to be a reconnaissance mission for Jack.

At the moment we have the commitment but not the cattle.

By next season, with the injection of a bit of quality into the squad we will really start to see the fruits of Jack's labour. I'm very comfortable with where we are at at the moment.

We are struggling but we are not meandering aimlessly like we have been under other coaches in recent years.

If we adhere to Jack's disciplined approach we will see things turn around sooner rather than later.

on a sombre note i thought the way the 1 minutes silence for sam davis was 'organised' was a disgrace you had teams warming up (glenelg longer) & i presume no one had told the players for one thing & why wouldn't you do it the same way as with the national anthem ? ie line up both teams & stand still for one minute rather than what we saw today, no doubt having a minutes silence was the correct thing to have but the way they had it was a disgrace & an insult to the davis family imho

It was done very well at Glenelg Oval today, four teams lining up with the officials and not a peep was heard....

full marks to jack,but how the hell did they beat us in r1? and i was there, true indication today, south are scrubbers, sorry but thats the truth

So Tas, how did the U19s pan out? I would not begrudge the Panthers a victory in that match.

Like I said on SL.org, a fitting punishment for the little turd who decked Sam Davis would be to pull a Bays jumper on him and make him start at centre in the Bays U19s v South.... but then I don't want to see the jumper defiled, either....

why would you degrade our jumper by letting that scum wear it??????????

Don't know left after the start of teh game, once my chores had finished at the club. 5 & 3 yo get bored easily

Workmanlike win by Glenelg over a South that lacked any real structure in the middle quarters. In fairly cold and windy, although not overly wet (except underfoot) conditions, the Bays simply had more numbers at the contest too often. Thought Ben Kane was easily best afield for consistent class at the stoppages, although Fisher and Allen good also. Backwell had some classy moments and great to hear the Snouts Player Of The Year get a huge roar for each of the six goals from the hill (a big sea of black and gold up there that dwarfed the South contingent). Their ball movement in the conditions was far slicker and they were able to spot up teammates a lot more consistently.

South were a mystery for much of the game. Take out Smith, Warren, Handby, Otten and one or two others and it would have been a painful day for Panther fans. They bombed it forward to space too often, and Warren must have been tearing his hair out with the delivery. He probably should have had six, and was a complete lone hand up forward. The number of times South either kicked it straight to a Glenelg player or to space with no-one there was indicative of their day. You could hear the difference between the sides also; I was on the outer (non-Grandstand) wing and could hear the Bays players talking loudly at the contests all day. South worked themselves into trouble a number of times with hardly a word from teammates, of direction or letting them know how far clear they were. This was really surprising, after hearing how vocal they were on the training track on Thursday night when I wandered down to watch.Their work off the ball was down at times also. The next few weeks will test the list, and will give a good indication of where they are at.

Can I call South our bitches again yet?

CoryS photo, from the reserves. The ground was actually sodden, I was surprised how wet underfoot it still was @ 3/4 time for the best grassed oval in the league.

Will Ash baxter be given a chance at league level?
He has kicked regular goals up forward in the twos and managed BOG on the weekend?

I genuinely hope Jack Cahill gives a couple of the consistently good ressies players a crack at league level,as there are at least two or three blokes in the league team who are way off the mark at the moment!
I know there is not a great deal of depth at the club,but surely it is time to bite the bullet and see what some of the younger blokes are made of!
Simply playing some of these recycled players week in week out with no improvement in sight is just a waste of time! I realise we are rebuilding and it will take time,but It would have to be better to see what some of the future players of the club have to offer.
We do have some good players,but I am sure Jack will work out in time wich ones that are not going to make it at this level!
