I know there are two things that must be remembered for clubs playing Central:

1) Make use of every opportunity you get
2) There will almost always be a time where Central get a few quick goals

1 and 2 happened in the space of 10 minutes. Grocke misses, Jacky misses, Dogs find space all of a sudden, four quick goals, game over.
Games played under lights at Elizabeth seem to follow the same pattern - arm wrestle until the last quarter, then they dominate for just long enough to decide the match. Ah well, at least we re-enter the five at least for one week. ;)
Well played Central.

The old saying goes regarding those who set the odds "I want what they're smoking!"

One bad quarter cost the eags the game tonight; also the crap umpiring didn’t help either :?

Not sure either side got a worse run with the umpires, certainly not the difference.

I wouldn't be slitting my wrists if I were an Eagles supporter (but I'm glad I'm not... ), plenty of blokes gave a solid effort most of the night.

Definitely not, I think the trend of play in front, win the free is still there. One thing which I will say though (but had absolutely no bearing on the match - the quarter time siren went just after) is that I think the "one deliberate out of bounds free in a year" interpretation should be stuck with. If that free kick against Stewart was in the AFL I'd agree with that.

To be honest, I don't recall seeing a lot of him. As the scores suggest, it's not the best night for a crumbing forward. The shot of his I mentioned wasn't the easiest as it was a snap from a fairly tight angle.

Cheers! And what was the go with the reserves game, I looked in the Budget and saw it was played elsewhere at about 11. Why was that, why didn't they play it before the league?

They had Gawler South vs Gawler Central as the curtain raiser. There was a triple header at Woodville which included the Reserves.

As smac and I came to an agreeance in, Lawry, Slade and O'Sullivan were the best for Central and Treeby and Passador best for Eagles.

Hey All,

Great hard fought win by the Doggies at the end of the night...

The best thing about tonights win, I thought, was the fact that we just kept on persisting, despite looking a bit patchy and trailing by 9 points at half time. Also pleasing was the fact that we didn't rely on two or three blokes to carry the load over the course of the game. At different stages throughout the night, different players stood up to play their own part in the win. Almost a case of "ALL PLAYED WELL"...

On another good note, I was down at Woodville earlier today and 3 things really stood out for me as highlights while I was there...

1. I walked in at half time of the 17's game with the winless, bottom placed Dogs leading the 2nd placed Eagles 10 goals to 1 !!?? More impoertantly though, the young lads held on for their very first victory of the year after 7 rounds. Well done boys, congratulations...

2. Despite the Eagles reserves having a line up full of league experienced players (and Trent Hentschel) the Doggies reserves team had their best win of the year to date, cruising to a very impressive and comfy 50 point win with the usual suspects once again in the better players. Ash Duncan, Brayden O'Hara, Alex Stengle, Lee Spurr, Louis Hadden and plenty more all played a part in the win... BUT....

3. In his first game back this year and probably only his 3rd or 4th outing in the last 2 years, Jeremy Aufderheide, more known as a defender but was actually a forward in the early stages of his career, was sensational playing from full forward kicking 5 goals and setting up another couple.

I will have more information on the League and Reserves games with my match reviews coming up (probably not til tomorrow arvo though), the great result of the under 17's (not sure about our Under 19's result, I had to leave at 1/4 time to get out to Elizabeth for the Barossa game curtain raiser) a bit on the Barossa game and a couple of interesting chats I had with 2 currently injured superstars from Centrals. All in all, a great day of footy but as I ended up watching 3 and a 1/4 games not only am I absolutely stuffed, my hand is pretty sore from writing about 12 A4 sized pages of notes from all the games mentioned.

GO U DOGGIES...

Big Phil...

Centrals could have easily let the game get away from them in the first quarter and bit with all their ineffective entries into their forward 50, luckily what did manage to hit the chest was converted.. great game until either the Eagles switched off or the Dogs switched on..

Bets on Luke McCabe ending up on Almost Footy Legends next week?
