Norwood too good, Port quite poor, no crumbing forwards, only played decent footy for first 15 minutes of 3rd qtr.

Port have struggled at the Parade a few times over the last few years when going in as favourite. We won last year largely thanks to Tredrea who i think kicked 7.
I dont want to sound pessimistic but i think Norwood will go in as slight favourites.

Did bayman say that before the announcement or after? Remember, he did tip us last week.

Very pleased with the result, and Josh Donohue's effort tonight. A mate saw him in his 2nd game last season and remarked he wasn't up to it. He was wrong

He said it right at the start of the week.

I thought so. He may have changed his mind since then.

As a mere web radio listener, it seems a bit tough to say that Port had no crumbing forwards. Nathan Krakouer seemed to be everywhere in the 2nd half. However he lacked mates and Norwood did sweep the ball out of defence the overwhelming majority of times when Hargraves or Waterhouse didn't mark. (Hargraves marked a lot, Waterhouse not much.)
Summerton, DePasquale and to some extent Maric seemed to dominate Port's possessions when they got back in the hunt in the 2nd half.
For Norwood, it seemed that Trotter was BOG in the first half, while when the chips were down in the 2nd half the defence really held firm, especially the older blokes: Bown, Dawes, Zorzi, with Duigan and Cockshell helping out. Gallagher kept on keeping on all night, as he so often does.
And Spelly: for a tough question-- when was the last time that a Norwood small forward kicked 6 goals? Rick Neagle kicked 6 in the 1982 grand final, but hopefully there's been one since then!

I have Norwood scorers from 2001, and in that time Scott Borlace kicked 6 in Round 12 2001; Scott Carslake kicked 7 in Round 8 2002.

I've got round by round goalkickers from 2006 for all clubs, but I've also got Eagles from 1991, and Sturt and Norwood from 2001.

Very nice to come home 82 pct drunk at the end of the night and check in the scores and find out the mighty 'legs have taken down the magpies. the year seems worthwhile at this point, no matter what happens from here

, albeit that the goal should always be to play finals and win.
the afl website will carry a story tomorrow (SATURDAY) detailing the Norwood v Port rivalry and why some people feel so strongly about it. Those people who are quoted really need to examine if they are living in the present or the past

RESERVES
Port Adelaide cruised to a dominant 53 point victory against the Redlegs in the early game at the Parade.
6 goals in 10 minutes during the first quarter set up the win for the Magpies, who led by 19 points at quarter time. The Magpies dominated the contest up to 3/4 time, kicking 9 goals to 3 in the middle two quarters to lead by 55 points at the final change.
Norwood, who had struggled to kick consecutive goals all night, kicked three in a row before Terry Milera's 3rd goal finished off the match.
The match was marred by a 5 minute brawl after the 3/4 time siren which involved every player on the field and many punches thrown.
It was a real team effort for the Magpies, with winners on every line, but it was the Aboriginal duo of Michael Clinch and Terry Milera who set up the victory in the first half. They had 5 goals between them to half time and set up at least another 3. Josh Taylor continued his outstanding form with another BOG effort with 3 goals across half forward, whilst Kerren Hall's effort in the ruck in the first half was a catalyst to the Magpies continued attacks.
Norwood struggled for winners up forward and were beaten in the midfield too easily. Stephen Doyle had a strong second half with 2 goals and a number of marks up forward, whilst Luke Nitschke, Ziggie Alwan and Matthew Bartemucci had plenty of the ball.

LEAGUE
Six goals from pocket rocket Josh Donohue has led Norwood to a comfortable 22 point victory against a brave Port Adelaide.
A 6 goal to 2 second quarter saw the Redlegs break out to a match winning 29 point lead at half time. The Magpies had no bench by half time as they were rocked by leg injuries to Jeremy Clayton and Stephen Eichner, and a broken collarbone to 17 year old Zane Kirkwood in a dirty incident involving Nick Lower.
Norwood stretched that lead early in the third quarter thanks to Josh Donohues fourth goal. But the Magpies weren't finished and piled on five unanswered goals in a strong 15 minute period to cut the margin down to just 6 points. Josh Donohues fifth goal for the match just before the 3/4 time siren steadied the legs and they led by 12 points at the final stage.
The last quarter was a dour affair, with Sam Rowe kicking the first of the quarter which could have broke the backs of the Magpies. Mark Dolling replied immediately, but it was Donohues night as his sixth goal was the sealer halfway through the quarter.
The Magpies ran out of puff in the end and missed Clayton in the middle in the second quarter where they were thrashed convincingly. Whilst Port attacked heavily in the last quarter, Norwoods defence held strong and their runners moved the ball out of danger quite easily.
Best for the victors were the obvious Josh Donohue and David Trotter who had a ton of ball in the middle. James Gallagher was his busy self, as was Matthew Dawes, whilst Sam Rowe and Stuart Bown were two of the most impressive talls on the ground.
Daniel Hargraves continued his run of form with another 5 goal haul, but led a lone hand up forward with minimal support from Waterhouse, Maric and Perry. Perkins and Lees played well on Walker and created plenty of run, whilst Elstone and De Pasquale had plenty of it as well.
Norwood will be happy with a solid win which could help kick start the season, whilst the Magpies will be pleased they fought out a game they could very well have lost by 10+ goals

Port supporters sure did complain a lot tonight, I'd imagine most won't be talking much tomorrow what with the abuse at the umpires.

Do tell... I don't vist that site on account of the fact it is run by goons and is the slowest site in the history of the innernet. Ever!

Great write up again Macca (as ever).
Things just didn't go right for us tonight... Our forwards did struggle (but Hargraves was excellent). Also our midfield, which has served us well lately, went missing (eg. Summerton had a very quiet game) and/or got injured.
Norwood had twice the footy that we did and thankfully kicked poorly which kept us in it.
As for the umpiring, it was a factor in the first quarter when the Legs got a couple of very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very soft frees for no apparent reason inside 50, but after that it was probably reasonable...

well i got this one wrong, port put up a brave effort considering they were down to the 18 they had on the field with no one left on the bench, norwood obviously learnt from their last match because when they were challenged instead of trying to save it they kept attacking
GWW, i lost $200.00 on port but i am still almost $2,000 in front for the year
i'll say this unless both these teams improve dramatically they WILL NOT be seeing finals footy at league level
